Das Dritte Ohr (the third ear) from Hildesheim is the longest existing and still active blues band in Germany. Since 1968 until today the guys around Udo Wolff play their blues
The Third Ear is Germany's oldest blues band and was founded by Udo Wolff in 1968. The band made its apprenticeship as a support group of the European tours of black blues musicians from the generation of Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, as a result of which the "ear" appeared on the best-selling sampler in the history of blues music in the world to this day on the legendary Chess label; in 1981, the group was the first German blues band to receive the Prize of the German Record Critics, among other things because of exclusively German blues lyrics; "Das Dritte Ohr" was the first German blues band to perform in the Eastern Bloc, the USA and Central America; to this day, the "Ohr" LP "Zahltag" is still the best-selling German blues production; Udo Wolff, in order to be able to work independently, was the first to found his own record label for a German blues band, "Hörsturz". With his musical partner of about 30 years, Tom Schrader, Udo Wolff has written over 200 of his own numbers to date. Typical Wolff quote: " Quite agreeable, loosely based on Molière: " 'We are there to entertain.' However, not at any price. In the end, it means: like it or leave it."
Das Dritte Ohr ist Deutschlands älteste Bluesband und wurde 1968 von Udo Wolff gegründet. Ihre Lehrzeit machte die Band als Begleitgruppe der Europa-Tourneen schwarzer Bluesmusiker aus der Generation von Muddy Waters und Howlin' Wolf, in deren Folge das "Ohr" auf dem bis heute weltweit bestverkauften Sampler in der Geschichte der Bluesmusik beim legendären Chess-Label erschien; Im Jahr 1981 erhielt die Gruppe als erste deutsche Bluesband den Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, unter anderem wegen ausschließlich deutscher Bluestexte; "Das Dritte Ohr" war die erste deutsche Bluesband, die im Ostblock, den USA und Mittelamerika auftrat; bis heute ist immer noch die "Ohr"-LP "Zahltag" die meistverkaufte deutsche Bluesproduktion; Udo Wolff gründete, um unabhängig arbeiten zu können, als Erster für eine deutsche Bluesband mit "Hörsturz" ein eigenes Plattenlabel. Mit seinem seit rund 30 Jahren musikalischem Partner Tom Schrader hat Udo Wolff bisher über 200 eigene Nummern verfasst. Typisches Wolff-Zitat: " Durchaus einverstanden, frei nach Molière: " `Wir sind da, um zu unterhalten.´ Allerdings nicht um jeden Preis. Heißt dann am Ende doch: Mögt es, oder lasst es."
traditionally Das Dritte Ohr can be heard for about 40 years at Christmas in their hometown Hildesheim, over many years e.g. in the legendary be bop on the Rottsberg.
Traditionell ist Das Dritte Ohr seit rund 40 Jahren zu Weihnachten in deren Heimatstadt Hildesheim, über viele Jahre z.B. im legendären be bop auf dem Rottsberg, zu hören.
