Extreme Metal Rock: A musical genre misunderstood and unjustly targeted...

During the last days of these last two weeks, I've been quite a lot of content related to the most Extreme Rock. Particularly, motivated by two reasons. The first one, its fascinating aesthetics. It's something that immediately catches your attention; simply undeniable and undisguisable (for the better). And secondly, and more importantly, to learn. Although I've always liked rock and electronic music, I've wanted to expand my musical "comfort zone" a little bit, and I've wanted to expand.

Now, both my curiosity and the power of chance, and the ability of YouTube's logarithm to recommend more and more content to you has made me a little less prejudiced about genres like Black Metal or Death Metal; even Grind Core. Besides, here at HIVE, let alone in the Music community, there is not a lot of coverage of these topics. And don't get me wrong, it's not a criticism but a sample of a reality, which has also coincided with my opening of decibels and guttural screams.

On the cover of my post are two icons of the most extreme Metal. "Dead and Euronymous. As I said, "two ambassadors" of the second wave of Norwegian Black Metal, and above all the inspiration for those who survived the progenitors of this powerful genre such as Venom and Bathory, and those of my generation (Millennials), who were born from the 90's onwards but didn't live this stage precisely. However, don't forget that where I am located, hearing, promoting, or even using the famous "Corpse Paint" typical of this kind of extreme metal genre, is not only frowned upon but is an almost absolute rarity (I'm from Venezuela, hello!).

In this sense, I learned that rock, even the loudest and most extreme, is the last link in a series of events that led a generation to invent this sound. Trash, Speed, Heavy and Punk Rock, are some of the "culprits" that Black and Death Metal have started their "way" and influence. Both in Northern Europe, mainly in Scandinavian countries and on the East Coast of the United States; and without forgetting the more than special but little known mention of Latin America: Brazil, Colombia, and even Peru as pioneers and co-founders of this genre.

Although Satanism, and some extremist views on politics, added to some vandalism episodes in the 90's increased the prejudices and unfair accusations against this side of rock and roll, it is no less true that the actions of a few "bad apples" and really problematic kids, do not represent the culture, composition, art and subculture of a genre that is not only part of our most recent history as an intelligent species, but is also part of the historical milestones of 2 continents (America and Europe).

For me, I do not consider that freedom of expression should be limited. We all have, or at least should defend, the responsibility to be able to discern and maintain a position without having to insult or denigrate that of others. .... Extreme rock is part of a genre rich and broad enough, and influential enough, that it cannot be denied. One cannot justify its censorship or vilification without first (at least) trying to understand it. In this last part, I place myself. A girl, who can't even come close to performing those gutturals; or to recreate the gloomy and gloomy atmosphere of his raw sound, but who feels attraction and finds it bewitching...

Before criticising something and attacking it because you perceive it as "negative" or "harmful", I recommend you to inform yourself. There is Satanism within extreme metal, that is undeniable, but also humanism, naturalism and cultural protection of legends of native places. It's not all hate and revenge... Besides, if it were, it wouldn't necessarily be negative either. They are part of existence. It is absurd that we can express emotions such as love or joy, but not negative ones such as anger or hatred? It makes you think. Besides, music is an art that should always be defended, no matter when you read this, it should never lose its validity.
