Hello, Hivers. Within the bands, groups or ensembles have always drawn attention to instruments with high frequencies, such as violin or guitar, which generally are the most striking instruments, but in this section of my blog, I will focus mostly on great bassists famous for their career or those new talents of these new times. The electric bass usually is not a very striking instrument for many, besides the great rockstars are always the guitarists or vocalists, but although it may not seem so, the bass and the bassist play an extremely important role, where in many cases the central axis of the musical themes is carried by the bass and usually those who create the bands are the bassists or are the producers. Known for being the bassist of "prince" besides having played for chaka khan and even for the singer Beyoncé, throughout her career she has lent her magic and talent on the biggest stages and we all know who Prince and Beyoncé are, but few know about those who make everything sound perfect and one of them is "Rhonda Smith" who within the world of bassists is one of my favorites for her style and great quality in the sound that comes out of her bass.

Dentro de las bandas, agrupaciones o ensambles siempre han llamado la atención los instrumentos con frecuencias altas, como el violín o la guitarra, que por lo general son los instrumentos más llamativos, pero en esta sección de mi blog, me centraré en su gran mayoría en grandes bajistas famosos por su trayectoria o esos nuevos talentos de estos nuevos tiempos. El bajo eléctrico por lo general no es un instrumento muy llamativo para muchos, además los grandes rockstar siempre son los guitarristas o vocalistas, pero aunque no lo parezca, el bajo y el bajista juegan un rol sumamente importante, donde en muchos casos el eje central de los temas musicales lo lleva el bajo y por lo general quienes crean las bandas son los bajistas o son los productores. Conocida por ser la bajista de “prince” además de haber tocado para chaka khan e incluso para la cantante Beyoncé, a lo largo de su trayectoria ha prestado su magia y talento en los más grandes escenarios y todos sabemos quiénes son Prince y Beyoncé, pero pocos saben de esos que hacen que todo suene perfecto y una de ellas es “Rhonda Smith” quien dentro del mundo de bajistas es una de mis favoritas por su estilo y gran calidad en el sonido que desprende de su bajo.
MUSICAL HISTORY
"Rhonda Smith is a bassist born in Nova Scotia in Canada, starting as a child in the world of music, playing piano, trumpet, guitar and what would become her main instrument, the electric bass. She was educated at McGill University, where she learned the basic notions of music, specializing in the execution of jazz, knowing many of its main exponents and its particular style, in this way Smith is increasing more and more her knowledge in this area, which allowed her to be the great bassist she is now. For more than ten years Smith worked with Prince as his main bassist and as the performer in the recording sessions of his albums, she was chosen from among a large number of bassists who auditioned to be part of a new band that Prince was creating and after a few months of waiting she was called by Prince himself to work hand in hand with him on his album and that is how she managed to work for several years with him. Among the most recognized artists she has played for are singers Jeff Beck, Beyoncé, Chaka Khan, among many other great artists. In 2000 she released her first solo album and with this she strengthened her position as one of the most respected bassists in the music industry.
“Rhonda Smith” es una bajista nacida en Nueva escocia en Canadá, iniciando desde muy niña en el mundo de la música, tocando el piano, la trompeta, guitarra y el que se convertiría en su instrumento principal, el bajo eléctrico. Se educó en la Universidad McGill, donde aprende las nociones básicas de la música especializándose en la ejecución del jazz, conociendo muchos de sus exponentes principales y su tan particular estilo, de esta forma Smith va incrementando más y más sus conocimientos en esta área cosa que le permitió ser la gran bajista que es ahora. Por más de diez años Smith trabajo con prince como su bajista principal y como la ejecutante en las sesiones de grabación de sus discos, ella es elegida de entre una gran cantidad de bajistas que audicionaron para formar parte de una nueva banda que estaba creando Prince y luego de una espera de algunos meses fue convocada por el mismo prince para que trabajara de la mano con él en su disco y es así como logró trabajar por varios años con él. Entre los artistas más reconocidos para quienes ha tocado, son para los cantantes Jeff Beck, Beyoncé, Chaka Khan, entre muchos otros grandes artistas. En el 2000 lanzó su primer disco en solitario y con esto afianza mucho más su posición como una de las más respetadas bajistas de la industria de la música.

Her style and technique are mainly based on jazz, maintaining a strong attachment to harmonic resources and sometimes creating quite complex but very well achieved structures. She has been able to maintain her jazz influence in styles such as rock, pop, indie and other genres, but it is always linked to her most characteristic style. She always maintains the use of excellent resources in the execution such as slap and tapping.
Su estilo y técnica están basados principalmente en el jazz, manteniendo un fuerte apego a los recursos armónicos y en ocasiones creando estructuras bastante complejas pero muy bien logradas. Su influencia jazz la ha sabido mantener en estilos como el rock, pop, indie y otros géneros pero siempre se ve ligada a su estilo más característico en ella. Siempre mantiene el uso de excelentes recursos en la ejecución como el slap y el tapping.
