My Actifit Report Card: June 28 2023

After a day of reduced sports on Tuesday, I woke up on Wednesday feeling refreshed and full of energy. I started my day with a banana and a cup of coffee, fueling myself for the action-packed day ahead. My destination for the day was Buchenholz, my favorite spot for some mountbike activities the last couple of days.

I hopped on my bike and made my way to my first stop, which was a set of stairs behind a gymnasium where some young people often gather. As I arrived at the stairs, I noticed debris scattered around them.

Without hesitation, I pulled out a bag I had received from a bakery and began cleaning up the area. The stairs were littered with cigarette butts, so I picked them up and moved on to a small plateau at the end of the stairs.

From there, I could see a nearby soccer field, and it seemed like this was a popular spot for people to gather and smoke.

I found more cigarette butts and some candy wrappers, which I collected and put in my bag. It seemed like people also used this spot to roll joints, as I discovered some rolling paper wrappers.

To my surprise, I also found a redeemable bottle, which I separated from the rest of the trash and put in my bag. Before leaving, I made sure to dispose of the trash in a nearby trash bin.

As I was cleaning up, I suddenly felt like I was being watched.

I looked around and spotted a young cat nearby. I tried to lure it towards me, but it was not interested. With a smile on my face, I got back on my bike and headed towards the local city park. Unfortunately, some birds had torn apart the trash from bins in search of food. I took it upon myself to clean up their mess, making sure to pick up any plastic they might eat.

Next, I decided to explore a lower-income housing area. To my surprise, it was relatively clean, with nothing much to pick up or tidy up. So I continued my journey and arrived at a playground near some houses.

Unfortunately, there was debris from people's evening activities scattered around.

I quickly got to work, cleaning up the area and ensuring it was tidy once again. As luck would have it, I found another redeemable bottle during my cleanup.

After completing my cleanup duties, I made my way to the highest point in the city. The view from there was breathtaking, and I took a moment to appreciate the beauty of the rising sun. It was a soul-soothing experience that rejuvenated me for the trails ahead. Speaking of which, I decided to take a different route this time and challenge myself by riding the Devil's Cliff. I put in a lot of effort during the downhill part, trying to beat my best time, but unfortunately, I fell a little short. Nevertheless, the forest was cool and refreshing, providing a much-needed respite from the physical exertion.

I then made my way back uphill to the top of the hill, where the trails of Buchenholz awaited me. On my way, I passed a private high school and continued through the forest until I reached the Wupper river. However, after the intense downhill sessions and steep altitude changes, I realized that I was quite exhausted. To conserve my energy for work later in the day, I decided to check out a bench along the stream of Wupper.

But before reaching the bench, I noticed a small path through the bushes. Curiosity got the better of me, and I followed it to a clearing directly at the Wupper. To my surprise, I stumbled upon the aftermath of a party.

There were several bottles and cans left behind by the revelers. Fortunately, I always carried plastic bags with me for moments like these. I quickly gathered all the bottles and cans, stuffed them into my backpack, and made my way to the bench along the dirt road.

As I arrived at the bench, I noticed an empty case of beer nearby, with no bottles in it.

However, there were some bottles scattered around. I took it upon myself to clean up the area and snapped the case with the bottles onto my backpack.

The load was getting heavy, but I was determined to continue my mission. Along the dirt road, I passed more benches with empty bottles, which I put away in the case. By this point, my backpack was filled to the brim.

Feeling satisfied with my collection, I made my way to the nearest supermarket with a dispenser for redeemable items. To my surprise, the total value of the bottles and cans amounted to around 6 euros. I realized that if I continued collecting and redeeming these items, I could potentially reach 100 euros by the end of August. With that goal in mind, I decided that once I reached 100 euros, I would donate the money to a food kitchen or another worthy cause.

After returning all the bottles and cans, I headed to the office. Luckily, the office building had a shower, which was a blessing after my adventurous day on the trails. I couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment for both enjoying the trails and making a positive impact on the environment around Wuppertal.

In conclusion, my Wednesday was filled with action and adventure. From cleaning up debris at various spots to enjoying the beautiful scenery and challenging myself on the trails, it was a day well spent. I felt a sense of fulfillment in not only indulging in my passion for cycling but also contributing to the cleanliness of my surroundings. As I look forward to future cycling endeavors, I am excited about the opportunities to explore new areas, make a positive impact, and share my experiences with others.

I had a vaccine shot today, I hope I can ride again on Friday. If not, Saturday still has pletty of time to spin the wheels of my bike.
Til the next 🚲.
