Hi folks,
Today at work was a little different for me
I had a Health and Safety Committee meeting to attend in the morning, at one of the other Water Treatment Plants that the company operates
Its on the other side of town
Takes about an hour to get there, through all kinds of traffic
(grotesque)
I could feel the stress building as I went, but it wasn't that bad. Comparatively speaking
Just not used to it
So it was nice when I pulled into the front gate to this plant, drove up a little way, around a bend, and saw a mother kangaroo and her joey casually hop across the road
I stopped. They hopped to the right of the roadway a few bounces, then also stopped, turning to face my direction
They watched me, curiously
I said hello and also watched, for a time
...
Quiet curiousity and contemplative joy
...
Then drove on toward the carpark
..
This is something I have seen kangaroos do since, well... Since my earliest memories of kangaroos
They will move away from you to keep a distance that feels safe to them, depending on how familiar they are with humans in general
But they will always stop and turn back at some point, and just watch
Forever, if you stay quiet and still
Or so it seems
...
You obviously can't do this if you scare or panic the animals
...
After meeting, back to work. Labwork for the rest of the afternoon
Can't wait for tomorrow arvo
