In the middle of Pumalin Park we found this beach of the Chilean Pacific, it was one of the first beaches we knew in Chile, with volcanic sands, with a black ash color, with the Vilcun hill that meets the sea, an iconic beach in southern Patagonia. It is located very close to Chaiten, one of the most beautiful villages in the south, hit by the fury of the Chaiten volcano in 2008, which changed its history forever, diverting the Blanco river that now divides the village into two areas, the village was abandoned for two years by government ordinance and in 2010 the villagers returned to their homeland to continue their lives, This brings us to the beach of Santa Barbara where the government of the commune of Palena, wanted to relocate the town to this beach which is about 10 km away which finally did not happen thanks to the decision of the villagers to return to their village.
We arrived to Santa Barbara by bike, near sunset, and decided to camp one night on the beach before leaving to Chaiten the next morning, the night was very quiet, the landscape was relaxing and next to us were two American travelers also camping, the beach was very seductive to be able to camp for free in the nature, only a couple of houses are in the surroundings, where we could get the classic "pan amasado" of chile, a homemade bread made by the villagers of the south and usually you find houses with signs announcing the sale of the breads, a "pansito amasado" for breakfast and go on.

En pleno Parque Pumalin encontramos esta playa del pacifico chileno, era una de las primeras playas que conocíamos en Chile, con arenas volcánicas, de un color negro ceniza, con el morro Vilcun que se une al mar, una playa iconica de la Patagonia Sur. Esta situada muy cerca de Chaiten, uno de los pueblos mas bonitos del sur, azotado por la furia del volcán Chaiten en 2008, que cambio su historia para siempre, desviando el rio Blanco que ahora divide al pueblo en dos zonas, el pueblo fue abandonado durante dos años por ordenanza del gobierno y en 2010 los pobladores regresaron a su tierra natal para continuar con su vida, esto nos lleva a la playa de Santa Barbara donde el gobierno de la comuna de Palena, quería reubicar la ciudad en este playa que esta a unos 10 km de distancia lo que finalmente no sucedió gracias a la decisión de los pobladores de querer volver a su pueblo.
Llagamos a Santa Barbara en bicicleta, cerca de el atardecer, y decidimos acampar una noche en la playa antes de partir a Chaiten en la mañana siguiente, la noche fue muy tranquila, el paisaje nos relajaba y junto a nosotros estaban dos viajeros estadounidenses también acampando, la playa era muy seductora al poder acampar gratis en la naturaleza, solo un par de casas se encuentran en los alrededores, donde pudimos conseguir el clásico “pan amasado” de chile, un pan casero que hacen los pobladores del sur y generalmente se encuentran casas con carteles anunciando la venta de los panes, un "pansito amasado" para el desayuno y a seguir.
