Good evening all, as we continue in the student workshop experience program, for this new week, we are now having it at civil engineering laboratory, and we were shown so many things but what we talked about today was soil where we define soil as the uppermost layer of the earth crust and again we were told that the two soil which am engineer don't use like that is sandy and clay soil but we were told and taught on different type of soil which we have .
And also the lecturer explained to us how to determine soil moisture but after explaining theoritically, he started the practical sessions where he used different type of soil to carry out the experiment which he first listed some test which are been used to determine the soil moisture which are:
- Specific gravity
- Sieve analysis
- Permeability
- Compaction
- Bull besity. And so on
So the test which he carried out today was that of sieve analysis, sieve are used in classifying different sizes of soil and we have different sieve which is been used with different hole size and this makes the soil texture different when it is been touched, some are like stone, and some are very light. We made use of the scale which enable us to get the weight of each soil moisture sieved and we took the reading. The mass of the uneven soil was 500g and we are to get mass of each soil for each sieve.
As today was the first day, we didn't really talk so much or had time to carry out all the test due to time factor but we will surely continue tomorrow.
Thanks for reading through my post.
