A scientific study claims that the wildfires that occurred in Australia between June 2019 and May 2020 were powerful enough to warm the Earth's atmosphere.

The university's team of scientists has created a virtual simulation of the gigantic cloud of smoke caused by the Australian forest fires, which were the largest in the country's history and destroyed 10 million hectares of forest.

The researchers calculated that at least one million tons of smoke particles ended up in the atmosphere, giving rise to a temporary greenhouse effect in the stratosphere, which is the layer of the atmosphere located between 10 and 50 kilometers high, this phenomenon lasted all the year 2020 producing an increase in the temperature in said atmospheric layer of between 1 and 2 degrees Celsius, for at least about six months and not only that, the researchers warn that the smoke could also affect the levels of the ozone layer.
Los investigadores calcularon que al menos un millón de toneladas de partículas de humo terminaron en la atmósfera dando lugar a un efecto invernadero temporal en la estratosfera, que es la capa de la atmósfera situada entre los 10 y 50 kilómetros de altura, este fenómeno duró todo el año 2020 produciendo un aumento de la temperatura en dicha capa atmosférica de entre 1 y 2 grados centígrados, por al menos unos seis meses y no sólo eso, los investigadores advierten que el humo también pudo afectar a los niveles de la capa de ozono.
