A new rotary detonation space engine
On August 19, the jaxa, which is the Japanese space agency, announced that it had successfully tested a new rotary detonation engine for rockets, it is an engine designed to save fuel and explore deep space.
The engine was mounted on the S520-31 rocket and launched on July 27 from the Uchinoura space center, once the rocket reached the required height, the exception of the engine was separated from the first stage of the rocket to activate for six seconds with detonations. rotating, after that a second pulse detonation system worked for another two seconds, finally a capsule with the telemetry data and videos fell into the ocean to be collected and studied by those responsible for the mission.
The idea of an engine of this type is old for at least 60 years the objective is to achieve an engine that produces a series of explosions within a ring-shaped channel so that a highly efficient propulsion is originated reducing the cost fuel and also reducing the mechanical parts that are necessary in a conventional rocket engine, but going from theory to reality is something very complicated, as I have already told you, they have been trying for many years and it seems that now the Japanese have not succeeded.
Placing cargo and fuel in space is very expensive, these engines will make space travel cheaper and be able to travel much further with the fuel available to the ship, thus reducing the times of exploration trips through the solar system.
