Hello everyone, today I share with you the third adventure of my long weekend trip in Cilento, in Campania, Southern Italy. Here you can find the previous episodes, in case you missed the first and/or the second posts, where I wrote about Paestum and Padula respectively.
As you can see from these first pictures, today I am sharing with you a gallery of photos taken at a natural oasis. After our visit at the Charterhouse of Padula and the Baptistery of Saint John in Spring, Riccardo and I drove to another amenity my accountant suggested us to visit: the Natural Oasis of the Waterfalls of Venus' Hair. Before anything else, I want to tell you the fun part of our visit at this natural reserve. First, at our arrival at the place, we parked and go to a small front desk where supposedly we could pay for the entrance ticket of the oasis. As we approach the desk, a lady from a distance yells at us saying that the only way to pay for the tickets was through an automatic ticket machine which only accepts coins - no credit cards, no banknotes.
We really wanted to pay also because it was very cheap and we read many good reviews of the place. Unfortunately though, we had no coins and the lady didn't have change; we tried to ask other visitors who were parking as well or about to leave, and none of theme could helps us. At some point, while Riccardo was going to the car to see if he had some coins left there, a guy who was driving off a parking spot, said something to him from the car window.
I was still trying to fight against the ticket machine, when Riccardo, after the quick chat with that guy in the car, told me to come over... in such a weird silent way. Well, the guy literally told him not to worry about the ticket, because there was a secondary entrance with no ticket checks, and we could use that... as they say, "desperate times call for desperate measures".
I have to say, I would never had skipped my visit to that oasis: we drove more than half an hour and we got pretty excited from the pictures we had seen before arriving there; we were sorry but we couldn't just give up because of a stupid "only-coins ticket machine". So we did it! Secondary entrance, here we go!
As we got into the oasis, we took a little lunch break and then we started to hike into the woods, waiting for the famous waterfalls to surprise us. This is the other fun part of the story!
We hiked for more than one hour when, at a certain point, we were forced to stop because the path would have either continued for something like 20 km to the next town, or it would have taken us off road, actually, on the real road, where houses and buildings were. And all that, without even seeing a glimpse of a waterfall! How was that possible?!
We walked back towards the beginning of the path and then, when we were basically back at the starting point, we finally saw the waterfalls!!! They were so visible and to easy to reach, because they were literally at the entrance, that we didn't even notice them ahahah
As you can imagine, we took our time to finally enjoy the sight of those beauties, and the name "Venus' hair" is totally spot-on!
Besides our adventures, we happily achieved our goal and left the oasis being very satisfied! Our next stop, before going back to the agritourism, was the town of Scario, which is a lovely sea village I already knew very well, as I used to go there at least three times a year during a sport trip I organize for the students of the university I work for.
While Venus' hair is located towards the mountains and inner side of the Cilento area, Scario is literally on the seaside, so it takes at least 30 minutes by car to get there. I wanted Riccardo to taste the "gelato", ice cream in Italian, I usually eat with the students, so we went there and quickly changed our view from mounts to sea!
This is something I really appreciate to the heart about Cilento: the variety of landscapes and natural attractions continuously strike me, and every time I happen to be around those places, somehow I feel home, good, find some peace for my soul and mind. It was just great to share this experience with someone worthy like him, I felt very grateful the whole time. And still do...

Ciao a tutti, oggi condivido con voi la terza avventura del mio weekend lungo in Cilento, in Campania, Sud Italia. Potete trovare qui gli episodi precedenti, nel caso ve li foste persi, il primo e /o il secondo, dove ho scritto di Paestum< /b> e Padula rispettivamente.
Come potete vedere da queste prime immagini, oggi condivido con voi una galleria di foto scattate in un'oasi naturale. Dopo la nostra visita alla Certosa di Padula e al Battistero di San Giovanni in Fonte, io e Riccardo ci siamo diretti verso un'altra attrazione che il mio commercialista ci ha suggerito di visitare: l'Oasi Naturale delle Cascate dei Capelli di Venere. Prima di ogni altra cosa, voglio raccontarvi la prima parte divertente della nostra visita in questa riserva naturale. Per prima cosa, al nostro arrivo sul posto, abbiamo parcheggiato e ci siamo recati in una piccola reception dove presumibilmente avremmo potuto pagare il biglietto d'ingresso all'oasi. Mentre ci avviciniamo al banco, una signora in lontananza ci urla dicendo che l'unico modo per pagare i biglietti era tramite una biglietteria automatica che accetta solo monete - niente carte di credito, niente banconote.
Volevamo davvero pagare anche perché era molto economico e abbiamo letto molte recensioni positive del posto. Purtroppo però non avevamo monete e la signora non aveva spicci; abbiamo provato a chiedere ad altri visitatori che stavano parcheggiando o che stavano per andarsene, e nessuno poteva aiutarci. Ad un certo punto, mentre Riccardo si dirigeva verso la macchina per vedere se gli erano rimaste delle monete, un tizio che stava uscendo da un parcheggio gli dice qualcosa dal finestrino.
Stavo ancora lottando con la biglietteria automatica, quando Riccardo, dopo la breve chiacchierata con quel tizio in macchina, mi ha detto di avvicinarmi... in un modo così strano e silenzioso. Ebbene, il tizio gli ha letteralmente detto di non preoccuparsi del biglietto, perché c'era un ingresso secondario senza controlli sui biglietti, e potevamo usarlo... come si suol dire, "a mali estremi, estremi rimedi".
Devo dire che non avrei mai saltato la mia visita a quell'oasi: abbiamo guidato più di mezz'ora e ci siamo emozionati per le foto che avevamo visto prima di arrivarci; ci è dispiaciuto ma non potevamo arrenderci a causa di una stupida "macchinetta di biglietti che accetta solo monetine". Quindi l'abbiamo fatto! Ingresso secondario, ci siamo!
Quando siamo entrati nell'oasi, abbiamo fatto una piccola pausa pranzo e poi abbiamo iniziato a camminare nel bosco, aspettando che le famose cascate ci sorprendessero. Questa è l'altra parte divertente della storia!
Abbiamo camminato per più di un'ora quando, a un certo punto, siamo stati costretti a fermarci perché il sentiero o avrebbe continuato per qualcosa come 20 km fino al paese successivo, oppure di avrebbe portato fuori strada, anzi, sulla strada vera, dove c'erano case e palazzi. E tutto questo, senza nemmeno intravedere una cascata! Com'era possibile?!
Siamo tornati indietro verso l'inizio del sentiero e poi, quando siamo praticamente tornati al punto di partenza, abbiamo finalmente visto le cascate!!! Erano così visibili e troppo facili da raggiungere, perché erano letteralmente all'ingresso, che non ce ne siamo nemmeno accorti ahahah
Come potete immaginare, ci siamo presi il nostro tempo per goderci finalmente la vista di quelle bellezze, e il nome "Capelli di Venere" è assolutamente azzeccato!
Oltre alle nostre avventure, abbiamo felicemente raggiunto il nostro obiettivo e lasciato l'oasi molto soddisfatti! La nostra tappa successiva, prima di tornare in agriturismo, è stata il paese di Scario, che è un grazioso paesino di mare che già conoscevo molto bene, dato che ci vado almeno tre volte l'anno durante una gita sportiva che organizzo per gli studenti dell'università per cui lavoro.
Mentre i capelli di Venere si trovano verso le montagne e l'interno del Cilento, Scario è letteralmente sul mare, quindi ci vogliono almeno 30 minuti di auto per arrivarci. Volevo che Riccardo assaggiasse il gelato che di solito mangio con gli studenti, così siamo andati lì e abbiamo cambiato rapidamente la nostra visuale dai monti al mare!
Questa è una cosa che apprezzo molto del Cilento: la varietà dei paesaggi e delle attrazioni naturali mi colpisce continuamente, e ogni volta che mi capita di essere in quei luoghi, in qualche modo mi sento a casa, bene, ritrovo finalmente un po' di pace per la mia anima e la mia mente. È stato semplicemente fantastico condividere questa esperienza con qualcuno che come lui, che apprezza, qualcuno "degno"... mi sono sentita molto grata per tutto il tempo. E lo faccio ancora...
