A new publication in which I review and give my opinion about two movies. I have selected two that I have seen a few days ago. Both are recent releases from two streaming platforms. Jolt is from Amazon Prime Video and Blood Red Sky is from Netflix. The former is an American production and the latter is German. **What do these two films have in common? Only two things: They are movies to pass a little time and enjoy on a weekend. They don't have complicated or deep stories. They are 100% commercial entertainment films.** The second common factor of both films is that they star women. In the first movie I will talk about, it is a famous Hollywood actress and in the second movie the main actress may not be world famous, but she is quite well known in Germany, where she has a long career. I advise you to prepare yourself some hot dogs or hamburgers, a nice glass of your favorite soft drink and forget about everyday problems. Don't be too demanding with these productions, it's escapist cinema. Which I also enjoy, not everything has to be a drama with great reflections on human existence. This type of commercial cinema, even if the most elitist moviegoers don't like it, is a necessary cinema for the majority of the masses to enjoy. The important thing is that they achieve their objective and that the filmmakers who make them are aware of their limitations. So that it doesn't happen like the movie The Tomorrow War that tries so hard to be something it is not, that it ends up being a hateful product (in my opinion). Now, without keeping you waiting, my impressions of the two films I recommend.

*¿Qué tienen en común estas dos películas? Sólo dos cosas: Son películas para pasar un rato y disfrutarlas en un fin de semana. No tienen historias complicadas ni profundas. Son películas de entretenimiento 100% comercial.* El segundo factor común de ambas películas es que están protagonizadas por mujeres. En la primera película de la que hablaré, se trata de una famosa actriz de Hollywood y en la segunda película la actriz principal quizás no sea famosa a nivel mundial, pero es bastante conocida en Alemania, donde tiene una larga carrera. Te aconsejo que te prepares unos perritos calientes o hamburguesas, un buen vaso de tu refresco favorito y te olvides de los problemas cotidianos. No seas muy exigente con estas producciones, es cine de evasión. Que también disfruto, no todo tiene que ser un drama con grandes reflexiones sobre la existencia humana. Este tipo de cine comercial, aunque no guste a los cinéfilos más elitistas, es un cine necesario para que la mayoría de las masas lo disfruten. Lo importante es que consigan su objetivo y que los cineastas que lo realizan sean conscientes de sus limitaciones. Para que no ocurra como la película The Tomorrow War que se esfuerza tanto en ser algo que no es, que acaba siendo un producto odioso (en mi opinión). Ahora, sin haceros esperar, mis impresiones sobre las dos películas que recomiendo.

### What is the plot of Jolt?

*Lindy Lewis was born with a strange gift or power, depending on how you look at it. She is a person who is easily angered to the point of exploding with rage. In those states of rage, she gains greater strength and has the desire to kill. Since she was a child, it caused her many problems and her parents sought help from scientists, the military and other organizations where such fits of rage could be useful. She now controls her impulses by means of a device made by Dr. Ivan Munchin that acts as a therapist. Whenever he feels anger, he presses a button that causes painful electric shocks, which keeps it under control. She tries to lead a normal life and meets a wonderful, handsome and romantic man, accountant Justin. But after a night of passion, having arranged to meet him for dinner, the police inform her that Justin has been shot twice. Prepare yourselves villains, you have unleashed the fury of a powerful woman who will seek out those responsible to kill them. Who killed Justin? Why? Will Lindy find the culprits? ### Opinion **One of the meanings of the word Jolt, which gives the film its title, is shaken. That's what I expected from the film. Getting a jolt of adrenaline with the action scenes.** Starring the beautiful Kate Beckinsale, who at 47 still looks as good looking as she did in Pearl Harbor (well, with a few good wrinkles). She has extensive action movie experience, while married to filmmaker Len Wiseman (I'm envious) she starred in the Underworld saga, of which I only saw the first two, because I got sick of that saga. Even the actress couldn't make me watch them all. Beautiful mature woman, expert at kicking bad men's asses, strong, smart and expert assassin. A very sexy mix for me. Ever since I saw the trailer I wanted to see the movie. This type of character is very fashionable nowadays, for example Charlize Theron fascinated me in Atomic and soon other movies will be released where the main character is a female version of John Wick. Hollywood producers know how to play with our emotions, they have studied us, they take advantage of our tastes and the social context in which we live. On the one hand they know that the male audience loves to see a beautiful woman fighting like a demon and the female audience has been won over by showing a female protagonist empowered, independent and breaking the face of very bad men hahaha. **Was I shaken by the movie? No, it wasn't as shocking as I expected, but I had fun. It's a predictable action movie. It has an apparent surprise twist that is easy to guess, but I was in the mood to enjoy the action without asking too many questions or looking for explanations.**

Tiene una amplia experiencia en películas de acción, mientras estuvo casada con el cineasta Len Wiseman (me da envidia) protagonizó la saga Underworld, de la que sólo vi las dos primeras, porque me harté de esa saga. Por un lado saben que al público masculino le encanta ver a una mujer guapa luchando como un demonio y al público femenino se lo han ganado, al mostrar a una protagonista femenina empoderada, independiente y partiéndole la cara a hombres muy malos jajaja. *¿Me estremeció la película? No, no fue tan impactante como esperaba, pero me divertí. Es una película de acción predecible. Tiene un giro sorpresa aparente fácil de adivinar, pero yo tenía ganas de disfrutar de la acción sin hacer demasiadas preguntas ni buscar explicaciones.*

**The whole story revolves around Lindy. From when she was a child to when she is a grown woman, with no social relationships because she poses a danger to society. Anything that bothers her will activate her nefarious superpower of uncontrolled rage and she is capable of killing anyone.** Where does this power come from? That doesn't matter much to the screenwriters. He was born that way and that's it. What we are going to be delighted with is those scenes where he gets angry and does bad things. Some humor is used, for example when he feels like stabbing an obnoxious waitress, but presses the button that activates the electromagnetic discharge that will prevent him from acting recklessly. The supporting actors fulfill their role, the script does not have good dialogues. But I remind you, the important thing is the action, the search for justice of this woman who wants to find the killers of the most incredible man she has ever known and with whom she feels healed, being by his side. Bobby Cannavale plays Detective Vicars, who will investigate Justin's mysterious murder and, of course, the main suspect will be Lindy. He is spellbound by her beauty and wants to help her. Laverne Cox plays Detective Nevin, this character is the worst of all. She has some really embarrassing scenes and dialogues. The great actor David Bradley plays Gareth Fizel, one of the typical millionaire villains who dines in a big room, alone and with a lot of darkness. How long will this cliché last? Stanley Tucci plays Dr. Ivan Munchin, a therapist who helps Lindy control her anger. Jai Courtney plays the charming Justin, the man whose death starts the whole plot. There is a very famous actress who also plays a small character in the movie, but I won't say the name so as not to ruin the surprise. If you're a Beckinsale fan, you'll like it. If you like movies with women breaking jaws and killing bad guys, you'll like it too. Don't expect anything but popcorn cinema. The film's director is Tanya Wexler and she doesn't pretend to give us anything but entertainment. This filmmaker has two excellent productions: Buffaloed and Histerya , two films totally different from this one. With Jolt she has decided to experiment with an action thriller.

### What is the plot of Blood Red Sky?

*Nadja and her young son, Elias, are taking an overnight flight from Germany to America. Elias is a very smart boy and loves his mother, who is ill and they are going to America for medical treatment. While waiting for the flight to depart, Elias strikes up a conversation with Farid, a man of Arab origin who is on his way to a scientific conference. After takeoff, a group of men, led by Berg, board the plane with the aim of hijacking it and crashing it at a location in the United States; they plan to parachute out when the plane passes through set coordinates. The problem arises when the craziest of the hijackers shoots Nadja, who apparently dies. But what they don't know is that she is a vampire woman who will do anything to protect her son. Hell has just begun for all the passengers on the plane. Nadja will face the hijackers. Will she be able to save her son? Will she be able to reach her destination? What will the hijackers do when they see the kind of creature they have to fight? What will happen to the other passengers? ### Opinion **I saw the trailer several weeks ago and found the plot interesting. A terrorist group hijacks a plane, unaware that inside is a superior, stronger creature with a huge appetite for blood.** Nadja is a woman that when we see her for the first time we notice that something is wrong, she seems sick. She constantly has to inject herself with medication that makes her look normal. Everything was well planned, they would leave at night and when they arrived in America it would also be at night, so she could undergo a possible treatment that would cure her. Her son Elias knows that his mother needs that treatment. He knows she needs blood to feed herself, but for years she has been careful to show herself as she is. Elijah has never seen her fully transformed. But the journey couldn't be perfect, otherwise we wouldn't have a story. The group of mercenaries decides to hijack that flight and as it always happens in this kind of movies. Among them there is one who is crazy, violent, doesn't think much before shooting (Yes, another cliché) and who shoots Nadja twice (this is not a spoiler, you can see it in the trailer). **There's always the character who screws up at work. It's always one who has a drug problem or is just plain crazy.** You just see it so often, it's predictable and I'm a little tired of it. When are they going to make a movie with a bunch of smart bad guys? Because these end up being idiots, even the craziest and most ruthless one is actually a fool.

#### Opinión *Vi el tráiler hace varias semanas y el argumento me pareció interesante. Un grupo terrorista secuestra un avión, sin saber que en su interior hay una criatura superior, más fuerte y con gran apetito de sangre.* Nadja es una mujer que cuando la vemos por primera vez notamos que algo anda mal, parece enferma. Constantemente tiene que inyectarse una medicación que la hace parecer normal. Todo estaba bien planeado, saldrían de noche y cuando llegaran a América también sería de noche, así podría someterse a un posible tratamiento que la curara. Su hijo Elías sabe que su madre necesita ese tratamiento. Sabe que ella necesita sangre para alimentarse, pero durante años se ha cuidado de mostrarse tal y como es. Elías nunca la ha visto totalmente transformada. Pero el viaje no podía ser perfecto, si no, no tendríamos una historia. El grupo de mercenarios decide secuestrar ese vuelo y como siempre ocurre en este tipo de películas. Entre ellos hay uno que está loco, es violento, no piensa mucho antes de disparar (Sí, otro cliché) y que dispara a Nadja dos veces (esto no es un spoiler, se puede ver en el trailer). *Siempre está el personaje que mete la pata en el trabajo. Siempre es uno que tiene un problema de drogas o simplemente está loco.* Es que se ve tan a menudo, que es predecible y estoy un poco cansado de ello. ¿Cuándo harán una película con un grupo de malos inteligentes? Porque estos terminan siendo idiotas, incluso el más loco y despiadado es en realidad un tonto.

**Why is Nadja a vampire? The movie respects the viewer and gives us the answer. Through flashbacks we will discover Nadja's past and how she ended up becoming this lethal creature.** Actress Peri Baumeister gives a good interpretation of this apparently fragile and defenseless woman, but when she transforms, all the animal instinct takes over her, being a dangerous creature, even for her loved ones. At the least opportune moment, the terrorists decide to hijack the plane, causing the apocalypse inside. I liked the makeup and the transformation of the vampires. They weren't very shocking scenes for me, because I had already seen the trailer, but I found Nadja's totally bald look quite appealing as a vampire. **The movie lived up to my expectations, I found it entertaining. I only saw one small flaw in it, its long running time.** It's two hours of film, when they could have condensed the story better. The flashbacks are inserted at different times, I think it was a mistake to do it that way. With one or two flashbacks at the beginning and shorter, they would have improved the film. This is the first film I've seen from German filmmaker Peter Thorwarth, who has already directed others in his country and of different genres. You can tell he wanted to make a more impactful film. There are small details that don't quite convince, but for me the film is worth seeing. Enjoy its story and how the group of villains faces a vampire woman willing to do anything to save her son Elias. Among the actors playing the villains is Dominic Purcell. Don't expect a great performance, he is the typical bad guy with simple dialogues. He is the leader, but it is one of the men under his command who becomes the great antagonist of the film. When you see it, you probably won't remember it after a few days. But it's not a bad movie, I like to be balanced in assessments and I assure you it's better than The Tomorrow War (Fuck yes, I hate that movie and I'll keep ranting about it) . A plane, desperate passengers, terrorists and a vampire What more do you want, it's movie time!

*¿Por qué Nadja es un vampiro? La película respeta al espectador y nos da la respuesta. A través de flashbacks descubriremos el pasado de Nadja y cómo acabó convirtiéndose en esta letal criatura.* La actriz Peri Baumeister hace una buena interpretación de esta mujer aparentemente frágil e indefensa, pero cuando se transforma, todo el instinto animal se apodera de ella, siendo una criatura peligrosa, incluso para sus seres queridos. En el momento menos oportuno, los terroristas deciden secuestrar el avión, provocando el apocalipsis en su interior. Me gustó el maquillaje y la transformación de los vampiros. No fueron escenas muy impactantes para mí, porque ya había visto el tráiler, pero el aspecto totalmente calvo de Nadja me pareció bastante atractivo como vampiro. *La película estuvo a la altura de mis expectativas, me pareció entretenida. Sólo le vi un pequeño defecto, su larga duración.* Son dos horas de película, cuando podrían haber condensado mejor la historia. Los flashbacks están insertados en diferentes momentos, creo que fue un error hacerlo así. Con uno o dos flashbacks al principio y más cortos, mejorarían la película. Esta es la primera película que veo del cineasta alemán Peter Thorwarth, que ya ha dirigido otras en su país y de diferentes géneros. Se nota que ha querido hacer una película más impactante. Hay pequeños detalles que no terminan de convencer, pero para mí la película merece la pena ser vista. Disfrutar de su historia y de cómo el grupo de villanos se enfrenta a una mujer vampiro dispuesta a todo para salvar a su hijo Elías. Entre los actores que interpretan a los villanos está Dominic Purcell. No esperes una gran actuación, es el típico malo con diálogos simples. Es el líder, pero es uno de los hombres bajo su mando el que se convierte en el gran antagonista de la película. Cuando la veas, seguramente después de unos días no te acordarás de ella. Pero no es una mala película, me gusta ser equilibrado en las valoraciones y te aseguro que es mejor que The Tomorrow War (Joder sí, odio esa película y seguiré despotricando de ella) . Un avión, pasajeros desesperados, terroristas y un vampiro ¡Qué más quieres, es hora de ver películas!

**Jolt and Blood Red Sky are the two movies I recommend you to watch next weekend if you are one of those who have to work these days. If you are lazy like me, you can watch them today, why wait? I hope you like them and if you don't like them for whatever reason, try to get something positive out of the viewing.
