Last week I mentioned the bad things and ended on a positive note that made me think:

Because itΒ΄s disrespectful to those lactose-intolerant kids.
What happened after the 90s where did all those amazing food allergies that make you sound so hip at the dinner table come from?
Let me feed you a clue:
I think it was not just gluten, lactose, or carbs. I think that the world in general became more intolerant after the nineties and these food excuses are just a symptom, like being woke is just a symptom:
Those food allergies do prove my mom's theory btw, let them eat sand they will grow up strong.
What was happening with kids born after the nineties was similar to those analog cameras from the 90s. They did not get the right types of exposure.
Underexposed to certain things, overexposed to others. It was a very unbalanced situation if you would ask me.
I blame the parents for not letting their kids eat sand, play in the dirt, and protect them from germs and bacteria that would make them stronger.
The so-called higher standards of cleanliness and lower exposure to microbes in early childhood lead to a higher risk of developing allergies. I think that point has been proven by all the wimpy millennials.
Millenials who grew up on overly processed foods and therefore did not grow the natural resistance that the generations before them had, not their fault to blame the parents for underexposing their kids, and being overly protective and sensitive about their little babies.
Kids growing up in the nineties probably were the last of the carefree generations.And if I say carefree I mean carefree, we did not care, parents did not care, regulators did not care.
Mom and Dad didnΒ΄t know what I was doing till I got home and did not tell them. Yes, that meant one day I got lost in the dunes with a friend a couple of years older, and a cut on my belly from where his belt cut me when I slid off his back.
We eventually got home thanks to two wonderful elderly people who went out of their way to take us lost boys home.
*(The Lost Boys Song is from 1987 it would have been perfect but you have to make do with that Train Song)*Yes, they could have been creepy elderly child porn enthusiasts, but back then we had to believe in the good of the people.... and often that worked out just fine.
Because we were not bombarded with all the sensational horror stories that are sent out to farm views and likes.
I remember my mom's Volkswagen Beatle and yes this was in the eighties but we would fight about who could sit in the trunk.
The Beatle had its engine in the back and just left enough space for one or two smaller kids to sit. Clearly, this mom is already planning to turn her kid into a millennial...just look how protective she is. But no car seats or seatbelts!
But we would sit behind the mom where they put those suitcases.
I had been taking 20-minute bike rides to school since I was 6, and nobody thought it strange that a little kid like that was driving a bike with no parental supervision.
I guess I made my point, and I survived:
Like I said all generations since World War II ended grew up like I did and then...it all changed.
Yes I think the end of the nineties started this new thing, the Pussy Parents, or as they themselves like to call it "helicopter parenting" or "intensive parenting."
The late 1990s and early 2000s saw increased media coverage of everything, more TV channels, and social media all screaming for attention. And what is most important to a parent, THEIR KIDS.
What is most important to the media, advertisement, what is the most wealthy market: parents!
Hence, the focus of the media was on child abductions, accidents, and other dangers. High-profile cases, such as the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in 2007, heightened parental fears about their children's safety.
Social media was even screaming louder than the mainstream screamies, exposing parents to a constant stream of information about potential dangers, from bullying to online predators. This over-sensationalized constant stream of information gave parents an unrealistic but constantly heightened sense of risk.
Scaredy Pants Parents were offered the perfect solution; Mobile Phones and GPS Tracking
This enabled them to constantly check on their children and further encouraged protective behaviors.
And with social media booming the kids were no longer safe outside & inside as online safety was never an issue in the nineties, but since the 00s there was even more helicoptering to do for mom and dad.
Of course, the older generations told these newbie parents they were overreacting.
So they went ahead and justified their behavior by stating that more involved parenting, influenced by the belief that close supervision and guidance were crucial for a child's success and well-being.
They tried to make the world believe this was done through the growing emphasis on children's education, extracurricular activities, and overall development. Yeah right, these kids spent more time at home behind screens than any generation before them...thatΒ΄s is not what I would call overall development.
With these protective parents in power legislation, late as always, had to follow suit.
Out of the blue we got that ugly sticker on our albums.
And the first album that got that official label of appreciation was;
And I have no clue whywhy!
So over the past few decades, there has been a significant increase in regulations and policies aimed at protecting children from abuse, neglect, and other forms of harm.
These legal frameworks have made the last few carefree parents more aware of their responsibilities and potential liabilities, leading to even more protective behaviors.
Now I can not say I was a carefree parent, but I sure as hell did not have a helicopter.
But my luck was that I had only one kid , so I needed to be the friend frequently. So we would go out and produce mischieve, come home late for dinner as I did not look at my mobile phone while playing with my kid.Hell I even moved to another country so he could grow up in a more natural environment. And yes I was very much aware I protected him, he was not allowed to watch TV till he was 6 years old and needed to learn Spanish.
But I downloaded all Disney, Pooh, Piuxar, and other movies I thought would be fun to watch. I must have seen the Heffalump movie a million times, same goes for Ice Age and A Bugs Life:
He was brought up eating everything, without unsupervised internet access. He actually never cared to be online till he was like twelve or so. By then he knew the risks and that he always could talk to us if something happened without shame. Just like my parents let me go wherever without a mobile phone or knowing what I was doing.
I think he grew up between the carefree & helicopter parents. A world with no social media and cyber-stuff till he was like twelve and without withholding something from him that his friends were allowed to do.
He grew up very stable, able to assess risks himself and make choices without being overexposed or under-exposed to the world outside.
