Hi community, this is my first time participating in this contest. I arrived because of the invitation that @miguelarl gave me
I hope my writing about the proposed image is to your liking.
Llegué a este supermercado a solicitar empleo, introduje mi currículo, como se acostumbra y esperé a que me llamaran. Para mi sorpresa me llamaron el mismo día, me dijeron que tenían una vacante pero no para pasillero o ayudante almacén - como había solicitado en mi síntesis curricular – sino como vigilante. Que si aceptaba comenzaría de inmediato.
No me hizo mucha gracia, pero debido a la necesidad y a lo urgido que estaba por conseguir un medio para asegurar el sustento a mi familia acepté el empleo “como quien se agarra de un clavo ardiendo”. Pero, a tres meses de estar trabajando aquí…¡Cómo lo he disfrutado!
I arrived at this supermarket to apply for a job, I introduced my resume, as usual, and waited for them to call me. To my surprise, they called me the same day, telling me that they had a vacancy, but not for a corridor or store assistant - as I had requested in my resume - but as a watchman. They told me that if I accepted I would start woking immediately.
I was not very amused, but due to the urgent need to find a way to provide for my family, I accepted the job "like someone who grabs a burning nail." But, after three months of working here... How I've enjoyed it!
Estoy sentado en una silla muy alta, lo cual me permite ver todas las áreas públicas del supermercado desde allí. Puedo observar el menor movimiento. Claro que hay cámaras por todos lados registrando cada movimiento, pero el chino confía más en mi trabajo porque al detectar una irregularidad la reportaré de inmediato, mientras que con las cámaras, primero hay que notar que “hubo” (así, en pasado) una irregularidad y luego sentarse a ver – probablemente por horas – la filmación, para poder llegar al momento preciso. Yo no, yo sorprendo a la persona in fraganti.
Estoy por sobre todos, hasta el chino dueño de este establecimiento está por debajo de mí cuando me subo a mi silla. Todos son pequeños.
I am sitting in a very high chair, which allows me to see all the public areas of the supermarket from there. I can observe the slightest movement. Of course there are cameras everywhere recording every movement, but the Chinese trust my work more because when I detect an irregularity I will report it immediately, while with cameras, you first have to note that "there was" (like this, in the past tense) an irregularity and then sit and watch – probably for hours – the filming, in order to arrive at the right moment. Not me, I surprise the person in fraganti (red-handed).
I am above everyone, even the Chinese owner of this establishment is below me when I get on my chair. They are all small.
Me se poderoso, y es una sensación embriagadora. He visto casos de personas recorriendo pasillos diferentes, mirando mercancías, comparando precios y encontrarse al final del pasillo y eso ha sido abrazarse, gesticular, reír, llorar, lo cual quiere decir que tenían mucho tiempo sin verse, sin saber cómo comunicarse y una simple compra en el lugar acertado a la hora específica logró el reencuentro.
También he presenciado cómo un pasillo amplio aparenta ser estrecho cuando se encuentran dos personas que “no se quieren ni ver” y fingen no haberse divisado, toman un pote o una caja de cereal para leer cuidadosamente todos sus componentes mientras la otra – esto ha pasado siempre entre mujeres - apura el paso o se devuelve.
Me tocó ver una pareja de la mano, empujando el hombre el carrito repleto de mercancía, toparse con una dama que venía en sentido contrario, se frenó y, sin dirigir la mirada a la otra dama, gritar al hombre:
-“¡Llegas a casa y te llevas toda tu ropa y todas tus cosa, las vas a encontrar en la puerta!”
It feels powerful to me, and it's an intoxicating feeling. I have seen cases of people going through different aisles, looking at merchandise, comparing prices and finding themselves at the end of the aisle and that has been hugging, gesturing, laughing, crying, which means that they had not seen each other for a long time, without knowing how to communicate and a simple purchase in the right place at the specific time achieved the reunion.
I have also witnessed how a wide corridor appears to be narrow when there are two people who "do not even want to see each other" and pretend not to have seen each other, take a jar or a box of cereal to carefully read all its components while the other - this has happened always between women - speed up the step or return.
I happened to see a couple holding hands, the man pushing the cart full of merchandise, run into a lady who was coming in the opposite direction, stopped and, without looking at the other lady, yelled at the man:
- "You come home and take all your clothes and all your things, you will find them at the door!"
En otra oportunidad vi a una joven, una chica muy ben vestida, tomar una lata de sardinas, mirar hacia los lados y con rapidez, levantar su falda y ocultarla en su ropa interior.
Bajé de inmediato, le di una buena reprimenda y la hice devolver el producto al anaquel. Esa vez no le dije nada al chino, dueño del supermercado.
Si me gustara escribir, creo que tendría material suficiente para hacer, por lo menos, un libro pequeño, con todas las cosas que he visto desde mi alta silla en este supermercado.
On another occasion I saw a young woman, a very well dressed girl, take a can of sardines, look to the sides and quickly lift her skirt and hide it in her underwear.
I immediately went downstairs, gave her a good scolding, and had her put the product back on the shelf. That time I didn't say anything to the Chinese man, who owns the supermarket.
If I liked to write, I think I would have enough material to make, at least, a small book, with all the things that I have seen from my high chair in this supermarket.
