My entry to the second week of #seasonhunt hosted by @barbara-orenya. Check 👉 Here for details.

This week’s theme is Autumn Leaves.

Depending on the type of tree, the leaves turn many different colors when the temperature drops.

The green color of the leaves fades as the tree becomes dormant for winter and the splash of yellow, rust, orange and red colors takes over to fill the countryside with splendid Autumn colors.

The giant leaves of the Elephant plants are turning yellow with the onset of Autumn.

This is what the Elephant plants looked like in summer when the leaves were still developing.

The mighty oak leaves are a bit more on the rust and yellow colors.

Eventually all the colorful leaves will fall from the deciduous trees. Left on the ground they make compost and are also great cover for insects and some animals to make a home for themselves to help survive the coming winter.

“As I watch plants go to sleep for the winter, I think of all the animals who are doing so too, especially the ones who’ve been able to make a life here because we have enough leaves to help them through every season. From the luna moth to the wood frog, many of our wild residents need the ground layers that so many of our human neighbors are intent on blowing away.”

Location: Prince Edward Island, Canada

The final resting place of the Autumn leaves. These ones have fallen on the forest floor. They will compost naturally, adding nutrients to the soil and providing cover for insects.
