A few days ago, I visited again the "Flor de Venezuela" Cultural Center, better known simply as Flower of Venezuela, which is located a short distance from my home.
As I have described in previous posts, this monument represented Venezuela in the Expo 2000 held in the German city of Hannover, which is why it was initially known as the Flower of Hannover, functioning as the national exhibition pavilion during the months that this event was active.
It is a dismountable structure consisting of 16 petals located in a circular shape around a central stem, which has a hydraulic system that allows the petals to unfold when weather conditions are suitable, that is, when it is not raining, providing visual appeal and facilitating natural ventilation.
Its creator was inspired by the orchid, the national flower, and the tepuis, ancient rock formations located in the south of the country, in the Amazon region.
On this occasion, I went on a Saturday at noon, which is why there were few visitors, who prefer the evening hours when the temperature is more pleasant, the petals are illuminated in an intense purple color, in addition, many times various events are held in their spaces, which attracts a greater number of people.
Unos días atrás, visité nuevamente el Centro Cultural Flor de Venezuela, mejor conocido simplemente como Flor de Venezuela, el cual se encuentra a corta distancia de mi hogar.
Como he descrito en posts anteriores, este monumento representó a Venezuela en la Expo 2000 realizada en la ciudad alemana de Hannover, razón por la cual se le conocía inicialmente como Flor de Hannover, funcionando como el pabellón de exposiciones nacional durante los meses que estuvo activo este evento.
Es una estructura desmontable que consta de 16 pétalos ubicados de forma circular alrededor de un tallo central, que posee un sistema hidráulico que permite que los pétalos se desplieguen cuando las condiciones meteorológicas son adecuadas, es decir, cuando no está lloviendo, aportándole atractivo visual y facilitando la ventilación natural.
Su creador se inspiró en la orquídea, la flor nacional, y los tepuyes, formaciones rocosas antiquísimas ubicadas al sur del país, en la región amazónica.
En esta ocasión, acudí un día Sábado en horas del mediodía, razón por la cual habían pocos visitantes, los cuales prefieren las horas nocturnas cuando la temperatura es más agradable, los pétalos se iluminan de un color púrpura intenso, además, muchas veces se realizan diversos eventos en sus espacios, lo que atrae un mayor número de personas.
In the middle of last year, maintenance work was carried out that included the dismantling and replacement of the canvases that cover the petals, which were worn out as a result of the weather, in addition to the lighting system and the hydraulic system that allows opening or closing the petals in a process that takes a little more than two minutes.
In addition to its proximity, to the point that I can partially observe it from the window of the dining room and the balcony of my apartment, I use to go with some frequency, among other reasons because it is a very photogenic place, where it is possible to take very good pictures, both of the structure itself, as well as its surroundings, and even of the nearby buildings.
The entrance is completely free and it has parking, although I usually go on foot, plus a small auditorium in the basement for talks or concerts, an ice cream parlor and restaurants in the outdoor areas, and craft sales, so over time it has become an architectural icon and a tourist attraction, which is usually included in the tours of domestic and foreign visitors who come to the city.
A mediados del año pasado, se realizaron trabajos de mantenimiento que incluyeron el desmontaje y sustitución de las lonas que recubren los pétalos, las cuales se encontraban desgastadas como consecuencia de la intemperie, además de sistema de iluminación y del sistema hidráulico que permite abrir o cerrar los pétalos en un proceso que tarda un poco más de dos minutos.
Además de su cercanía, a tal punto que puedo observarla parcialmente desde la ventana del comedor y el balcón de mi apartamento, acostumbro a ir con cierta frecuencia, entre otras razones porque es un lugar muy fotogénico, donde es posible realizar muy buenas fotos, tanto de la estructura en sí, como de sus alrededores, e incluso, de las edificaciones cercanas.
La entrada es completamente gratuita y cuenta con estacionamiento, aunque yo suelo ir a pié, además de un pequeño auditorio en su sótano para realizar charlas o conciertos, una heladería y restaurantes en sus áreas exteriores, y ventas de artesanías, por lo que en el transcurso del tiempo se ha convertido en un ícono arquitectónico y un atractivo turístico, el cual suele estar incluido en los recorridos de los visitantes nacionales o extranjeros que vienen a la ciudad.
