#AlphabetHunt letter W - What a Wonderful World!

Air or WIND, Earth, Water and Fire are the four basic elements of nature; and if one were to ask which is the stronger, you would get a different answer each time.
These powerful elements are the source of life on earth, but can also be the cause of much damage.

Wind is movement of air caused by varying air pressures and range from a gentle breeze, gale, storm to severe hurricanes.

Harvesting the power of the Wind on the other hand is an age-old practice; like using a Windmill to grind grain or for pumping Water.

Nowadays more and more Wind Farms are being set up with giant Wind turbines for generating mechanical power and electricity by harvesting the powerful Wind energy.

The phrase:
Taking the Wind out of my sails of course is not talking about the movement of air, but rather means that one is taken by surprise, or to lose one's confidence when something goes wrong.

Which takes us the the next powerful element of nature, and that is WATER, without which no one can survive.
It is said that about 97% of the earth's water is found in the ocean.

Waves are caused by the Wind and the stronger the Wind, the bigger the Waves; interesting to see how everything is interconnected.

The Wind making it difficult for these fishermen as the ocean is full of turbulence with giant waves, but great for kite-surfing as in the previous image.

Only about two percent of the earth's water is frozen up in glaciers and ice caps and less than one percent of all water on Earth is fresh; leaving us with very little usable water!
Source
People need to realize that this resource needs to be looked after and not polluted.

The phrase:
Making Waves is not talking about Water at all, but rather about someone who is causing a disturbance or a sensation by their actions.

WASTE found in the ocean makes a pretty display here at the Agulhas Lighthouse on the southernmost tip of Africa, but does much harm to the ocean and river ecosystems.
All kinds of material like plastic and rubber tyres are dumped into rivers and the ocean, causing havoc with life underwater.

Will the people of Mother Earth ever learn to dispose of Waste responsibly or rather stop manufacturing this kind of waste and start using bio-degradable materials instead?

The phrase:
Waste not, want not, simply means one should use a resource carefully and responsibly so that you will never be without it; quite an apt saying not so!

A WALL is built for the purpose of enclosing an area, as a support for a roof, to retain earth and ultimately to provide shelter.
A multitude of materials are used such as bricks, concrete blocks, stone, wood being the most common.

The phrase:
There's a Wall between us does not literally talk about a physical Wall, but rather a barrier in a relationship.

A WINDOW is built into a Wall for the visual aspect of seeing the natural beauty of the outdoors and bringing light and air into a building.
The Window sill often is used to display pretty ornaments. Here is the view from my kitchen window, almost feels like the outdoor area is part of the interior.

The phrase:
The eyes are the Windows to the soul means that one can sometimes see a person's emotions by the look in their eyes.

Ending off with my favourite W-letter word and that is WOOD which has a multitude of uses:
To make a fire in winter, make furniture, make decorative and packaging boxes, making features for building such as balustrades and of course the material used by a sculptor to carve beautiful works of art.
Our friend doing what he loves most; bringing life to a piece of dead wood.

The phrase:
To be out of the Woods means to be out of difficulties or danger, especially used when someone has been gravely ill and are on the road to recovery.
