Splinterlands: The Scary and Hideous PHANTASM

Time for the SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge.

So, this time Carrie wanna scare us with this hideous looking creature, PHANTASM. Nobody want to see at this hideous being, let alone go against it. When Lord of Darkness manipulated the rules of death to unleash PHANTASM, even he was unaware of the terror and havoc he was bringing to the Splinterlands.

PHANTASM is a common death monster. It has great health and speed along with Flying ability, right from Level-1. It gets Return Fire and Retaliate abilities at Level-5 and Level-9 respectively. Too good for a common monster, right!

Since it is a new reward card, so I own just Level-4 so far. But I wish to upgrade it considering its utility in some battle rules. The simple version is currently trading at 0.015$/bcx and the gold foil version is going at 0.44$/bcx. Pretty cheap I would say.

Favored Battle Rules

PHANTASM can serve as a nice tank when other Epic and legendary tanks are not available i.e. Rise of the Commons battle rule.

Since PHANTASM have Flying ability right from Level-1, so naturally it is best suited for Earthquake battle rule.

Having great speed along with Flying ability gives PHANTASM a high chance of evading melee and ranged attacks so battles with minimal or no magic can give it an edge. Weak Magic, Armored Up and Up close & Personal battles rules favor the PHANTASM.

Placement

PHANTASM can serve a nice tank upfront where it can survive pretty well due to its high speed and Flying ability.

In Melee Mayhem or Super Sneak battle rules it can be placed anywhere in back ranks.

How to Use

PHANTASM can be complemented with abilities and positive buffs using summoners and monsters. e.g.

  • Increased melee attack using Inspire ability or summoner perks.

  • Since PHANTASM has no shield by default, so having shield from summoner or monsters is a nice play. Tank Heal, Void, Triage, Cleanse and Repair abilities can also be very helpful.

  • Positive health attribute from Strengthen ability monsters or Summoners to improve the health.

  • Complementing PHANTASM with speed related attributes or buffs (Swift, Slow and Blind) can make it pretty hard to hit.

Defense

The best way to take out PHANTASM is by using Magic and Blast attacks. Melee or ranged attacks can always miss their mark especially when High Speed Flying monster like PHANTASM is involved.

Thorns can be employed as a nice defense against it.

Slowing PHANTASM down by Slow ability can also increase the chances of hitting it.

Application of poison is also a nice way to kill it.

This was a 50 mana battle with two battle rules, Even Stevens and Earthquake.

MIMOSA NIGHTSHADE

Since this was high mana battle, so I decided to use 7 mana legendary summoner, MIMOSA NIGHTSHADE.

I love using MIMOSA NIGHTSHADE because of her void ability and affliction buff.


PHANTASM

Upfront, I placed my PHANTASM mainly because the Earthquake battle rule was in affect.

But with all legendary tanks at enemy disposal PHANTASM can be quite weak and needs appropriate complementing abilities e.g. Protect, Tank Heal and Taunt.


CORRUPTED PEGASUS

On one down position, I placed my favorite Reach monster, CORRUPTED PEGASUS. Also, it is the only Death Splinter monster with Tank Heal ability. Tank Heal and Reach makes CORRUPTED PEGASUS a perfect monster to back any tank.

It also possesses Flying ability so it is especially useful in Earthquake rule set.


PHANTOM SOLDIER

Next, I placed another flying tanks, PHANTOM SOLDIER. It has great health and decent magic attack with Silence ability. Works great in keeping enemy magic attack in check.


TOWER GRIFFIN

Time to reinforce the team(especially PHANTASM) with Shield so I used TOWER GRIFFIN for its Protect ability.

Also TOWER GRIFFIN has flying ability, an added advantage in Earthquake battle rule.


OCTOPIDER

On second last position came, OCTOPIDER. Although non flying, but it can survive Earthquake due to heavy health and shield. Also don't ignore the heavy ranged attack and Demoralize ability.


DARK HA'ON

On the very last, I placed the Taunt Monster, DARK HA'ON, providing relief to PHANTASM and rest of the team.

Taunt monsters can seriously disturb enemy attack plan.

BATTLE ANALYSIS

The battle went as planned. DARK HA'ON did its job of taunting and kept the enemy busy. Together DARK HA'ON and CORRUPTED PEGASUS did kept PHANTASM alive.

The secret was me respecting the battle rules and prefering the Flying monsters.
