William Shakespeare's Macbeth was the only reading at school that I read with interest, and I liked many of the screen adaptations because of the atmosphere of the Frenzy. Studio A24 makes very specific films.
The famous Lighthouse or the recent Green Knight only confirm that they know madness like no other studio, and if you give the art to the right director you will get a spectacle that is intriguing and completely different from previous screen adaptations of Macbeth. The latest film adaptation was made by the well-known director Joel Coen, who often, together with his brother, creates great films somewhere on the verge of black humour.
The latest work is the complete opposite of that.
The film builds an atmosphere torn out of a nightmarish dream shrouded in mystery, with a strong accent on the surreal rendering of the area where the action takes place. In some places the surrounding world is so overwhelming that we suffocate while watching this macabre carnage, but at the same time it is a pleasure to see such interesting stylizations to show the story grimly between dream and reality.

The film is inspired in places by such works as the aforementioned Lighthouse, namely by the specific depiction of the frames, dirty, grey and even repulsive as the whole story. The film often breaks the fourth wall when the protagonist delivers a monologue towards us, which of course brings to mind a specific theatrical technique that often appears in this film. Yes I will be the only person in the world where I don't mind Denzel Washington being cast as Macbeth was a great performance.
He was so in character that it was clear during the film that this was no Denzel, but a flesh and blood Macbeth who was going to greater and greater extremes in his madness. It's a great revamped version of the book, which will appeal to young people (as a Macbeth fan I already love the latest version).
A huge plus of the film is the witch, who resembles the death from Bergman's film.
The film is slow, but where the tension builds it shows it perfectly. The visions and eccentricities that manifest on screen are first class. I have never seen such a dark and gloomy version. It is a film that absorbs the viewer and throws him into a crazy dream where it is hard to find oneself. On the big plus side, the film does not speak in rhyming monologues, but there are some famous lines.
The Tragedy of Macbeth is a film about madness, power, temptation and consequences. Although the action takes place in knightly times, the theme is just as relevant today. The quest for power has never ended.
The film can be viewed on Apple TV. I warmly recommend it, it's the darkest and at the same time the best screen adaptation with a great choice of the main actor and his film wife.
I knew the finale well and nothing changes here. Although there is an epilogue which makes the whole story even more eerie. All in all, a great piece of cinema that you need to know.

Makbet Williama Shakespeare był jedyna lektura w szkole która z zaciekawieniem czytałem, a wiele ekranizacji lubiłem ze względu na klimat SZALEŃSTWO.
Studio A24 tworzy bardzo specyficzne filmy. Słynny film Lighthouse czy ostatni Green Knight tylko potwierdzają, ze jak żadne inne studio na obłędzie znają się idealnie, a jeśli sztukę odda się odpowiedniemu reżyserowi to dostaniemy spektakl intrygujący i na wskroś inny niż dotychczasowe ekranizacje Makbeta.
Najnowsza ekranizacje podjął się znany reżyser Joel Coen który często wraz z bratem tworzy świetne filmy gdzieś na pograniczu czarnego humoru. Najnowsze dzieło to całkowite przeciwieństwo tego.
Film buduje klimat wyrwany z koszmarnego snu owianego tajemniczością z mocnym akcentem surrealistycznego oddania terenu po którym dzieje się akcja. Miejscami otaczający świat jest tak przytłaczający, ze dusimy się oglądając ta makabryczna rzeź, ale jednocześnie cieszy fakt tak niezwykle ciekawie dobrana stylizacje by ukazać historie ponuro między snem a jawa.
Film miejscami inspiruje się takimi dziełami jak jzu wcześniej wspomniany Lighthouse a mianowicie chodzi o specyficzne ukazanie kadrów, brudne, szare wręcz takie odpychające jak cała ta historia.
Film często łamie czwarta ścianę kiedy bohater wygłasza monolog w kierunku nas na myśl przywodzi oczywiście specyficzny teatralny warsztat, który często w tym filmie występuje.
Tak będę jedyna osoba na świecie gdzie nie przeszkadza mi obsadzenie Denzela Washingtona w roli Makbeta było świetnym zagraniem. Aktor wczuł się tak bardzo, ze w czasie seansu widać było, ze to nie Denzel, a Makbet z krwi i kości który w swoim szaleństwie idzie w coraz bardziej skrajne rzeczy.
To świetna odnowiona wersja lektury, która przypadnie młodzieży ( ja jako fan Makbeta już uwielbiam najnowsza wersje) na ogromny plus tego filmu zasługuje czarownica, która przypomina smierć z filmu Bergmana.
Film jest powolny, ale tam gdzie narasta napięcie to idealnie to ukazuje. Wizje oraz dziwactwa jakie na ekranie się przejawiają to pierwsza klasa realizatorska.

Tak mrocznej i ponurej wersji nigdy nie widziałem. To film, który wchłania widza i wrzuca w ten szaleńczy sen gdzie ciężko się odnaleźć. Na duży plus w filmie nie mówią rymowanymi monologami, lecz zdarzają się słynne wiersze.
Tragedia Makbeta to film o szaleństwie o władzy, o kuszeniu i o konsekwencjach. Mimo, ze akcja dzieje się w czasach rycerskich to temat jest równie aktualny teraz. Dążenie do władzy nigdy nie skończyło się.
Film można obejrzeć na platformie Apple TV. Polecam serdecznie to najbardziej mroczna i jednocześnie najlepsza ekranizacja z świetnie dobranym głównym aktorem oraz jego filmowa żona. Finał znałem dobrze i tutaj nic się nie zmienia.
Choć jest jeszcze epilog, który nadaje całej tej opowieści jeszcze bardziej upiorny wyraz. Reasumując świetne kino, które trzeba znać.
