Over last week's voice meeting, some right questions were asked. We at BDC enjoy all questions and try to answer them to the best of our ability. The problem was nothing new. But it can always use re-iteration. So, we will try to do that a bit in this editorial. The question is simply about support. How to get help from this community and hive in general. The answer hasn't changed over the years. The answer is simple:

  1. Engagement: on personal and other's post
  2. Networking
  3. Community Service

If anyone wants to survive as a blogger on the hive blockchain, the first two elements are mandatory. The third one is optional but highly appreciated. The results of the first two can be seen on front-line bloggers of this platform. Not only do these individuals generate quality content like clockwork, which anyone who writes a post will tell you is no ordinary feat, but also, some of them produce 500 + comments that are highly engaging over a single week. Imagine generating 7-10 posts per week and writing 500 + comments on others' posts (meaning, reading probably 100-200 posts each week). Imagine the amount of time and effort that goes into that. Then think about the rewards they sometimes get. I think most will agree that, in developed countries, it is perhaps not worth their time, but they do it for two reasons:

  1. They like it
  2. They want to enrich Hive contents

So far, nothing I have mentioned is new or community-specific. I urge BDC users to follow these simple guidelines for their personal benefit as a blogger. Please remember that, for some of you, English may not be your first language. So, in addition to the previously mentioned networking benefits, your writing and communication skills will improve dramatically if you remain engaged at the Hive blockchain. This will likely help you improve your communication skills if you are in a job, and it will help you get and flourish on a new job. This is simply because English is the language on the internet. Writing regularly and interacting with other hive blockchain members will improve both your verbal and intellectual abilities with the additional benefit of knowing new people and new cultures.

Finally, there is community service. Founders of this community put a lot of emphasis on the dual nature of the community service. It goes both ways. You can help the community with funds, or you can help the community with your time. There are excellent examples of the latter in multiple longer-term members (I hope some of them will comment). We have limited resources, but still, we have been able to reward various active community members. Also, multiple writing contests are being organized, and the primary goal of these contests is to help members improve their skills and distribution of some amount of wealth in the process. From our point of view, both are critical to growing the community.

Please be active on the blockchain. Talk to us. Between the key members of this community, we have an immense amount of experience in many essential things in life, including blockchain, web development, literature, trading, cryptocurrency, gaming, politics, and economics. On any of these subjects, we can provide help and support/guidance for free. Let us build a community together.

This week featured- 𝕳𝖔𝖜 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖊𝖒𝖔𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓 𝖈𝖍𝖆𝖓𝖌𝖊𝖘!

I, a boy of class seven who is praying to his creator to save him for today. He recites all the dua's in mind he could remember before the teacher is entering the room. After his entrance, there used to be pin-drop silence everywhere. Everyone is busy to start revising their lesson because he will begin taking the class within a short time, and after that, there is strict punishment.

This teacher was the strictest one in our school. He was like another name of terror. Almost ninety percent of students used secure eighty plus score in his subject due to him. His punishment was very much terrifying for us, and we used to wish when we will get rid of him. We used to think about how good it will be if he resigns from our school. Every week there were three periods of him and as it was a private school, their rules, and regulation too much strict comparing to the other schools in our city. So there was no scope of bunking class except attending them.

We got freedom from him, which cost him his life. Yeah, in that year, there was a tornado that took his life. Were we happy then? Trust me, every student was sad for him. Nobody expected such freedom from him. Trust me, no one could feel that at last, we are freed from him. Nobody thought of this. Everyone was in such a shock that it became too difficult for us to believe that he is no more. We used to miss his punishments, his terrors, his teachings, and everything.

Nobody thought that our emotions for him would change in such a way; He would leave us like that. Days before, when we were happy to hear that he is on leave today, he won't come, and now we are sad about knowing that he will never come. After so many years, this memory crossed through my mind, and still, I pray to the Almighty Allah to grant him the highest place of Jannah.

Robert Bresson

Source

Robert Bresson is a significant figure of World Cinema for his contribution to the art form. He has a collection of personal remarks and notes regarding cinema that I frequently take a look at. I'd like to mention a few that might seem unconventional. He doesn't explain the notes, so I'd like to do that as well.

"An actor in cinematography might as well be in a foreign country. He does not speak its language."

An actor is like an external tool that filmmakers incorporate to populate their frames with dialogues, gestures, or emotions (by cinematography, Bresson always meant film/cinema. The traditional meaning of a cameraman's work is not applicable here). They are not essential to the art-form itself and are always interchangeable. The general people hold the sentiment that actors make the film or a role they love couldn't be played by anyone other than their favorite star. Which is false. The actual communication a filmmaker establishes with the audience is through their imagery and their interlaced relationships, not human models.

"Radically suppress intentions in your models."

Bresson was different in this case in that he took total control of the actors/models by not forcing theatricality on them at all. He wanted his actors to feel natural about what they were doing, not to think about it. The intention of doing (or acting) defeats the purpose of the act. This is why he preferred to cast unknown or new actors in each film. However, this method might not apply to many other auteurs who actively did the opposite.

Head-clerk says I should write about exams. For obvious reasons, duh! And my first reaction was, "No way in hell!" Again, for obvious reasons.

So why are we so toxic towards exams? I'm pretty sure all the students from the subcontinent absolutely hate exams to the gutter regardless of what they say to the face. By pretty sure, I mean 137.68% sure.

Right there, that's one of the top reasons....we are required to memorize tons of such "useless" information and regurgitate it on the exam paper. Our exams, especially the public sector ones, aren't really tailored to suit the needs of a profession. Dada and I were talking about this very same issue a couple of days back when dada shared a video of a job interview. The candidate was asked the moon's mass in what seemingly was an interview for a bank job (just an example). Now, the mass of the moon might be an essential piece of information for an astrophysicist (I don't know), but for a bank job...? Doubt it!

I have sat for a lot of exams, such is the profession. But I think I am in a unique position for constructive criticism because I have, in fact, attended/prepared for exams in 3 different countries.

The medical exams of western countries are almost entirely application-based, making preparing for them much more intriguing, albeit quite rigorous, and makes the whole process a fruitful one in terms of the clinical career. I feel this is where our system falls behind.

I could go and on with examples of question comparison and bore the readers with academic nonsense that they don't need to know. But they will all be essential information to me. And that's the point. Maybe no information is useless; it just needs to be tailored more precisely. A doctor probably shouldn't have to know all the Brahmaputra River's tributaries to save a patient's life, but someone in environment research does.

Speaking of research....this is another field I feel we lack in the subcontinent. Someone once told me the western doctors and scientists do the research and write _ Davidson's Principles and Practice of Medicine_ and we just memorize their work. There is no advancement, no expansion of knowledge. And that needs to change.

Most medical students in the developed world already publish a couple of papers by the time they graduate. Medical students here can not think of having that time or support from the professors to even learn how to write a research paper....we can forget actually doing research altogether.

Sure, we need to memorize a lot...but most of our teachers know how to squeeze the fun out of learning! There are those rare breeds of the rising sun who take it upon them to make their own light and shine it on their peers. But we need more of them; many, many more.

Just as the sun was preparing to set in the western sky, a baby was born in a poor farmer's house. The farmer was overjoyed as their first child arrives in the world after five years of striving. What is prevalent in rural areas is that when a new baby is born in a house, people from all over the neighborhood rush to see and bless the baby. Suddenly a group of transgender from among the visitors forcibly entered the house and started screaming. They were soliciting five thousand Taka for the arrival of a new guest in the house; otherwise, they will seize the baby. The farmer was in a dilemma because he did not have that much money. The issue was later unraveled with an exchange of two thousand Taka, and the transgender team left the house. Like this story, third gender people are repeatedly victimizing people at home, on public transport, and on the streets. Many people are scared and infuriated by the feminine behavior of transgender people; on the other hand, many enjoy it. For ages, these transgender people have preferred this method as their means of livelihood.

Usually, we contemplate people as transgender whose physical features consist of both boys and girls. In some cases, they carry two sex organs, both male and female. Especially in this Indian subcontinent, the so-called street transgender is preferred to be feminine. However, the purpose of my writing today is not to assess the sexual aspects of transgender people instead present them differently to ordinary people so that they can lead their life as a normal human being in this society.

As far as I know, third gender people have been given social recognition by law in both Bangladesh and India, but it is limited only to the law in reality. The reason is that transgender people have not changed their traditional lifestyle; similarly, everyday people are unwilling to accept them like others. So now it is high time for transgender people to change their behavior and construct their acceptance in the people's minds. In the same way, we should not treat these people differently. They should get proper education and employment opportunities like others. Because we have to remember that they are also human beings, and human beings are the best creatures of creation. We should not despise the best animals.

Instructions to Get Featured

This here is our piece de resistance. To promote engagement and a little self-branding, we have come up with an initiative that we simply called Featured. And we are very excited about this portion of the magazine.

Every week, one talented author will have the opportunity to contribute a piece for the magazine while showcasing one of their best posts. The willing writers will have a chance to add a few words about any topic they choose and be a 25% beneficiary of the magazine.

How to Get Featured

The first step is you have to decide whether you want to get featured or not. Once you've made up your mind, you have to apply by submitting one of your articles from last week. We have a wiggle room for quality content if they are older than seven days. Choose the piece you deem to be your best work for the week, as this will play a significant role in you getting featured or not.

Application Window

There will be a two-day period to submit your application. It must be submitted by dropping a link to your post in the #Featured-Magazine channel on the BDCommunity Discord Server. One author will be chosen randomly from all the submissions. The featured author for the week will be announced during the weekly voice meeting. They will then have two days to write a piece and submit it.

The author who gets featured in the weekly magazine will be set as a 25% beneficiary, meaning 25% of the magazine's liquid payout will go to the featured author.

Do not forget to join our next weekly hangout on at Friday 10 pm GMT +6
