DIY_flambouyant cap

Making a flamboyant cap sure looks easy with these six simple steps, two fabrics, a measuring tape, a pair of scissors ✂️ , a sewing thread🧵, a needle🪡 and or a sewing machine.

Yes you can achieve it without a sewing machine, although it will take a little more time. It's no matter though cus beauty takes time, right?

Without much ado, let's get right into it…

These are the two fabrics-
A sequence fabric and Velvet

For the next step we will need a trusty fabric scissors, a measuring tape and a blackboard chalk (yeah, the dusty one)

NOW TO THE EXACT MEASUREMENTS IN INCHES
To make this cap a total of half yard which is 18inches of velvet and 12inches of sequence fabric is needed.
These are the measurements used as stated below;

Velvet fabric
Length- 14inches
Width- 23inches
Make sure to double the layers of these measurements to get a firm fabric as the velvet fabric is light.

Extra rim of velvet for the crisscross look in the front
2inches length and 23inches width

You could see the extra rim below

Sequence fabric
Length - 6inches
Width - 56inches

I measured and cut out the sequence as shown above.

Here is to the second phase

Sewing and coupling
First I sewed the sequence by the wrong side in order to turn over as seen below

After sewing the back side I turned them over.

Then I pressed the sewn part down with an electric iron making sure the sewn area was in the middle as seen below.

Then I sewed the extra rims atop one layer of the velvet fabric, right side up and the sewed rim above

Then I placed the second part above the sewn rims wrong side up and sewed.

Turned it over then placed my ironed sequence making little folds of over a quarter inch as I sewed stopping in the middle then turning and layering as seen below:

I used two long rails of sequence fabric to achieve the ruffles on the side.

Then folded and sewed in a box-like form all around.

Then the last part involves the use of needle and thread.

First passing doubled thread trough the eye of the needle then knotting the end thrice to get a thick knot.

From the sewn top of the box-like frame above to the side below I used the big needle to pass through the folded edges to the end then knotting the thread up but a bit loosely so it is not too thick.

Turning it over will give you this…✨✨✨
