Big update for the workshop. I spent some of my HBD in tools. These posts are the ones making my way through Hive, so it's only fair I can use what I make on them in tools, jigs and other work-related stuff.
Cosas nuevas en el taller. Gasté algunos de mis HBD en herramientas. Estos posts son los que me han dado un lugar en Hive, así que es justo que use parte de este dinero en herramientas, útiles y otros asuntos relacionados con el taller.
Here you have 2 new saws for the toolshed. The first one looks like a toy, but do not think for a second it is one. It's study and it cuts like a machine! This one will be useful to open fret slots and cutting small pieces. It also came with a saw for wider pieces of wood and four spare thin saws. It was a nice deal. The second one is a back saw. This one is useful for cutting big pieces of wood smoothly. It is also smaller than the one I have at home. It's a nice addition. It also helps a newbie like me get cleaner cuts.
Aquí tienen los dos miembros nuevos de las herramientas del taller. La primera luce como un juguete, pero no se dejen engañar por la apreciencia. ¡Corta como una máquina y es dura como no tienen idea! Está será útil para abrir las raunras de los trastes y cortar algunas piezas pequeñas. Además, vino con un serrucho y 4 seguetas de repuesto. Una ganga. El segundo es un serrucho de costilla. Este es útil para cortes limpios de piezas más gruesas. También es más pequeño que el serrucho que ya tenía en casa. Es una buena adición. En especial, para un novato en el asunto de la carpintería.
These are the new jigs. The first one is for making seamless joints in the pieces of the back and the sound board. You'll see how it's used in a moment. The second one has to be the most important one. It's my solera mold. This is where I'll put the pieces to glue them together once they're all ready. This one is special because it is a table. It's big enough to fit guitars, so it's big enough to fit most plucked strings instruments. What's more, once I have money for more wood, I'll go back to the workshop to make a ceiling for it. Why? That way I'll have my own Go-Bar Press. So, this jig has a long way to go and it will serve multiple purposes in the workshop. That's efficient design!
Estos son los útiles nuevos. El primero es para cepillar las tapas y fondos. Verán cómo se usa en un momento. El segundo tiene que ser el útil más importante de todos. Es una solera. Aquí se arman los instrumentos después de que las piezas individuales están listas. Este es diferente porque es una mesa. Tiene el tamaño suficiente para albergar una guitarra. Por ende, servirá para la mayoría de instrumentos de cuerdas pulsadas. Cuando tenga dinero para más madera, volveré al taller para hacer un techo. ¿Por qué? Así tendré mi propia Prensa Go-Bar. Así que este útil será multipropósito. ¡Eso es un diseño eficiente!
This is how you use this jig. First, you get the piece you want to even out under the brake at one end. Then, you use a plane to even out the side you need to work. You can do this individually or with both pieces at the same time. With this you achieve seamless joints -if you're skilled enough.
Así se utiliza este útil. Primero, se encaja la pieza a trabajar debajo del tope a un extremo de la herramienta. Luego, se utiliza un cepillo para emparejar el lado que se esté trabajando. Se puede hacer inidividualmente o con ambias piezas a la vez. Así se pueden lograr juntas perfectas -si tienes la práctica suficiente.
After several attempts of getting them even, the pieces of this sound board and back are ready to be glued.
Después de vaios intentos para lograr una buena junta, las piezas de este fondo y tapa armónica están listas para ser pegadas.
Time to join this back and sound board. For this, we use the jig I presented in the last entry. It did a pretty good job getting the pieces together. After that, I clenead them a bit with my scrapper.
Es hora de unir este fondo y tapa armónica. Para esto utilizamos el útil que se presento en la entrada anterior. Después de hacer las juntas es tiempo de limpiar las piezas con esta rasqueta.
A little more work that was done this morning. I trimmed this sound board and took some material off. I also marked the place for the reinforcement and struts that go inside the instrument. The last picture is a light test. This is done to see if the piece is thin enough to start putting all the other parts (struts and reinforcements).
Un poco más del trabajo realizado apenas esta mañana. Rebajé un poco del exceso de esta pieza. También marqué el lugar de los refuerzos y barras del abanico armónico. Finalmente, se hizo una prueba al tasluz. Esto se hace para saber si ya se ha reducido lo suficiente el grosor de la pieza y empezae a colocar el resto (refuerzos y barras).
