Good day everyone, Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa with another Warhammer 40,000 lore article. I have covered the Gods of Chaos and the general idea of what the Warp is. In a nutshell, it is the sea of souls, it is the place where the thoughts of entities with souls become combined and manifested.
One of the oldest and most primal entities that were born in the Warp is Khorn, the Blood God. He is known by other names and has other properties such as Rage, Hatred, Battle, Courage, Honor, and Slaughter and while some of those might seem to be good things, they are also the path toward the bad ones.
Courage, Honor, and even Battle are good things for the faithful and pure in the Imperium, they could lead to Pride and Arrogance. A follower of Khorne might initially start out just being being a better fighter or more courageous or being a better leader.
But the martial prowess leads to pride or the courage may turn into a lust for battle and this might turn into a maddening frenzy or an unnatural need to spill blood.
So from a soldier to a warrior and a born leader to a murderer or raging berserker, this is the path that leads to this particular brand of damnation.
As a rule, Chaos Gods themselves being the concentrations of the broad energy concepts - do not manifest themselves into reality. Instead they work through Daemons and mortal servants to act on their behalf.
Like most Chaos Gods, the grant boons and favours to those who do their bidding. The Chaos Gods are fickle and though the Ecclesiarchy may wish to deny this, persons other than outright Chaos Gods may be given favours if that person does whatever the Chaos God desires.
Thus a human, devout in his faith in the Emperor may be fighting for his life fighting Orks and being outnumbered but still willing to fight on in hand-to-hand combat may bring the attention of Khorne, granting at least an increased ability to fight and maybe more... much more!
As for Daemons of Khorne, the Bloodletters make up the bulk of the army, led by Bloodthirsters. Juggernaughts of Khorne and Flesh Hounds are other Khorne Daemons.
