Sleep: Enemy As A kid, Friend As An Adult

You all would agree with me that growing up, many of us hated to sleep, an essential part of our daily lives but while we were kids we weren't very fond of it. We simply saw it either as an interruption to our bedtime or fun or we saw it as a chor. Gradually, as we transition into adulthood, our perspectives on sleep can change dramatically and we begin to understand its importance and value. Now we crave for it but the funny thing now is that the demands of daily life makes us get little or none of it.

I'm not a sleep doctor but in this article, i will delve into the reasons why we may have hated sleep as children and why it has become such a valuable and sought-after commodity for us as adults.

As kids..
As children, our primary focus was having fun and exploring the world around us. We had boundless energy and a thirst for adventure, and sleep seemed like nothing more than a roadblock to our fun. We saw it as a waste of time that takes us away from the activities we enjoy the most and hinders our ability to have fun. This is especially true when it comes to bedtime but one of your favorite shows is on TV. If we're told to go to bed at that particular time, it can feel like a punishment. Especially at that moment we are in the middle of an exciting activity.

As kids we couldn't compare the excitement and novelty of playing with friends, watching TV, or playing video games to sleep. No! We couldn't. I mean as kids that's so boring to be snoring when your mates are outside balling. Sleep is a passive activity, and for children who are naturally active and energetic, it can feel like a drag. Then we may feel like we are missing out on the fun, and that sleep is taking away our time to explore and play.

As an adult..
However, as we grow older, we begin to understand the importance of sleep. We start to experience the consequences of a lack of sleep, such as fatigue, irritability, and decreased productivity. We also begin to understand the benefits of a good night's sleep, including improved mood, increased energy, and better cognitive function. This can help us appreciate sleep in a new light, and we start to see it as a necessary and valuable part of our daily routine.

Sleep also becomes more important as we take on more responsibilities, both at work and at home. When we have a lot on our plate, it becomes increasingly necessary to get a good night's sleep in order to be productive and successful. A lack of sleep can lead to decreased productivity, decreased focus, and decreased ability to handle the demands of daily life. As a result, we begin to crave sleep as a way to recharge and refresh our bodies and minds.

That said, how do I view sleep..
To be honest any slightest opportunity I get from a busy day routine I find a spot to catch a nap. At least for some moment, I snap away from the worries and get myself powered up for the next task. But this was something I hated as a kid. Something I got spanked for when mum says it is time to have our siesta and I'm still outside playing with friends.
