Espectáculo, eso ha sido la ceremonia inaugural en el Estadio Al Khor, un espectáculo que buscaba con su fastuosidad, luminosidad, y perfecto guión, lavar las vergüenzas y la polémica en que se ha visto envuelta esta Copa del Mundo. En medio de las crecientes tensiones de una guerra y el coletazo final de una pandemia, el balón estaba a punto de rodar en una sede mundialista por demás polémica -y vaya que FIFA las ha tenido antes como Argentina en medio de una dictadura militar o el mundial pasado en Rusia que ya veía los albores del conflicto en Crimea y a la postre en Ucrania al completo-.
Políticas fuera, la obertura supo ser la perfecta entrada en calor para los aficionados; Morgan Freeman y un discurso de inclusión -que se queda en ello, en discurso-, musicalización que incluía porras insignia de cada uno de los invitados a la justa, todas las mascotas de mundiales anteriores reunidas y los acordes que evocan la nostalgia de anteriores Copas Mundiales. Se terminó la ceremonia y con ello las cámaras dejaron de enfocar al Emir, a Infantino y demás figuras políticas; el balón habría de rodar.
En un Estadio encallado en medio de la nada y que recrea la forma de las tiendas que usaban los nómadas del Golfo, en la nación más pequeña -territorialmente- en haber organizado una Copa del Mundo, el balón reclamaba ese protagonismo inherente a su esférica figura, la pelota es como un “Dios Redondo” que se venera en múltiples templos alrededor del mundo y, cada 4 años, ve el punto más álgido de todas sus celebraciones “eucarísticas” en aquello que nosotros -sus más fieles feligreses- llamamos Copa del Mundo, Mundial de Fútbol, o “el Mundial” a secas.

In a stadium stranded in the middle of nowhere and recreating the shape of the tents used by the nomads of the Gulf, in the smallest nation -territorially- to have hosted a World Cup, the ball claimed that inherent protagonism of its spherical figure, the ball is like a "Round God" that is venerated in multiple temples around the world and, every four years, sees the climax of all its "Eucharistic" celebrations in what we -its most faithful parishioners- call the World Cup.

El balón aparece en el terreno de juego y acapara las miradas del Mundo entero, incluso los hinchas con más conciencia social, pasamos por alto toda polémica, el ruido por la corrupción en FIFA, el trato inhumano a trabajadores inmigrantes, la homofobia y el extremismo del país sede, de repente dejaron de hacer tanto ruido en nuestras cabezas, como si hubieran perdido decibelios de intensidad, y no, nada de lo anteriormente mencionado ha cambiado, solamente rodó el balón.
Qatar es el primer país arabe en organizar una Copa del Mundo, y son anfitriones en su primera participación Mundialista, y habría de buscar hacer historia -contra todo pronóstico- al ganar su primer partido en la historia de las Copas del Mundo; el último equipo en haber conseguido debutar en “la Copa más linda de todas” con victoria fue Senegal -en Corea-Japón 2002- que se estrenó derrotando a la Francia regente por 1-0.

Qatar is the first Arab country to host a World Cup, and they are hosting as they take on their first World Cup, and would be looking to make history - against all odds- by winning their first match in World Cup history; the last team to have made their debut in "the most beautiful Cup of all" with a victory was Senegal -at Korea-Japan 2002- who beat regent France 1-0.
El entrenador español Félix Sánchez mandó al terreno de juego a 9 de los 11 titulares que alineó en la final de la Copa Asiática de 2019 ante Japón; el catalán con la necesidad de llevar su barco a un puerto aceptablemente bueno ponía en juego, entonces, a lo mejor que tenía disponible en sus filas. Ecuador, por su parte, debutaba en esta Copa del Mundo con sorpresa en el arco, Galíndez atajó en lugar de Domínguez y con Michael Estrada y Enner Valencia en la punta.
Pitó Daniele Orsato, rodó el balón, ahora sí que arrancaba la Copa del Mundo y con el rodar de la pelota hubo alguien que reclamaría su sitio en el desierto; no se puede decir que era un protagonista inesperado, pues si alguien estaba llamado a brillar en el encuentro inaugural entre la anfitriona Qatar y la sorpresiva Ecuador era él, Enner Remberto Valencia Lastra que al minuto 4 ya estaba escribiendo su nombre en las arenas del desierto pero el VAR le ahogó el grito de gol sin qudar demasiado claras las razones de la sanción a esa jugada.
Ante una débil Qatar que terminaría sus primeros 90 minutos de historia en los Mundiales sin haber rematado una sola ocasión al arco rival, Ecuador siguió en lo suyo y Enner tenía claro que buscaba ser el primer héroe en el desierto Qatarí. Valencia se haría justicia, no sin previa mediación de Orsato que pitó el claro penalti que le cometía el meta Al Shee, Enner no falló desde la cal al 16’ y así escribió su nombre junto al de todos y cada uno de los anotadores inaugurales en la historia de las Copas del Mundo.

Con el 0-1 para Ecuador, el partido se encaminaba muy pronto para los sudamericanos y se resolvería prácticamente con la misma frecuencia de prontitud, puesto que apenas al haberse rebasado la media hora de juego Valencia redondearía su fiesta; centro de Angelo Preciado para un remate de cabeza de altísima manufactura por parte del centro delantero del Fenerbahçe turco.
La única fiesta en suelo Qatarí ha sido de Enner Valencia, se bastó de media hora para marcar tres goles -uno anulado- y poner dulce sabor a “Suspiro” ecuatoriano en el partido inaugural de la cuarta Copa del Mundo para los sudamericanos. Amargo estreno para los anfitriones, tanto así que para la reanudación tras el descanso un gran sector de la grada local había dejado desierto su sitio en la tribuna y conforme la segunda mitad fue avanzando el éxodo de aficionados locales se fue haciendo mayor al grado de que el silbatazo final por parte de Orsato se encontró un Estadio semivacío; por primera vez en toda la historia de las Copas del Mundo la selección anfitriona ha caído en el partido inaugural de su Copa Mundial, lo acontecido hoy en el césped de Al Khor puede ser la radiografía de muchas cosas fuera del rodar de la pelota; al buen entendedor, pocas palabras.
