La Romareda en Zaragoza tenía un ambiente inmejorable para que la Selección Española de Luis Enrique buscara la victoria ante la combativa selección de Suiza. El cuadro Helvético suele ser un hueso duro de roer para la Roja, y en la noche zaragozana no iba a ser diferente.
La única derrota de España ante el conjunto suizo, se dio en el debut mundialista de ambos en Sudáfrica 2010, una derrota que fue el preámbulo de un Mundial con el más feliz de los finales para el conjunto español de Don Vicente del Bosque.
The Romareda in Zaragoza had an unbeatable atmosphere for Luis Enrique's Spanish national team as they went in search of victory against a combative Switzerland side. The Swiss are usually a tough nut to crack for La Roja, and the night in Zaragoza was to be no different.

Con 55’ minutos en el reloj, la Roja espabiló por un momento, generó la única jugada de desequilibrio claro en el partido; una grandiosa cabalgata de Asensio que recibió de espaldas en el centro del campo y fue limpiando la zona sembrando jugadores suizos a su paso para, acto seguido, asistir la subida de Jordi Alba que definió con potencia el empate para los de Luis Enrique.
Con el 1-1 en el luminoso La Romareda creía, pero los suizos creyeron más y volvieron a exhibir las limitaciones de una selección española tan solo 3 minutos después; un nuevo tiro de esquina en el que Akanji prolongó y Embolo remató de una forma tan poco ortodoxa como, a la postre, efectiva para decretar el 1-2 definitivo. Suiza sabía a la perfección de las debilidades defensivas de España a balón parado y las aprovechó a la perfección.
Luis Enrique buscó sacudir el árbol y cambiar su frente de ataque inicial al completo; ingresó a la cancha a Yeremy Pino, Borja Iglesias y Nico Williams, pero España no encontró el camino ni la contundencia para enderezar el barco. ¡Una dura derrota a muy poco del inicio del Mundial en Qatar! Mucho hay que mejorar en el seno de la selección española.
With 55' minutes on the clock, La Roja woke up for a moment, generated their only clear play of the match; a great ride by Asensio who received with the ball in midfield and cleared the area, sowing Swiss players in his path to, immediately after, assist the run of Jordi Alba who powerfully scored the equaliser for Luis Enrique's team.
With 1-1 on the scoreboard La Romareda believed, but the Swiss believed more and again showed the limitations of a Spanish team just 3 minutes later; a new corner kick in which Akanji extended and Embolo finished off in a way that was as unorthodox as it was effective in the end to make it 1-2. Switzerland were well aware of Spain's defensive weaknesses at set-pieces and exploited them to perfection.
Luis Enrique tried to shake the tree and change his entire front line; he brought on Yeremy Pino, Borja Iglesias and Nico Williams, but Spain could not find the way or the forcefulness to redress the ship. A tough defeat very close to the start of the World Cup in Qatar! There is a lot of room for improvement within the Spanish national team.
