Hello guys my dear Hivers!!! Thank you for all your support. I am here again to share other accomplished tasks as a School Leader. Last Month of September 2023 we had a round table discussion with the Parents Teachers Association of Ilihan Integrated School (PTA). One of the topics we discussed was to have a First Grand Alumni Homecoming of the Elementary Department. Formerly Ilihan Elementary School and now Ilihan Integrated School. As we went along I found out it was not an easy task because some of the alumni could not remember their classmates in grade 6 anymore. So we find ways to make this happen. It came to my mind one day this month of January 2024 the simple and practical way how to gather the alumni without hassle.
First, since they could not Remember some of their batchmates the problem of food preparation arose. So what I suggested was that we have a registration of 500 pesos for the snacks, lunch, and T-shirt. No need for them to think hard about who are their batchmates. They will just wait for them until the time of the homecoming. As long as they can remember the year they graduated in grade 6.
Second, I realized that the 500 pesos were enough for snacks, lunch, and a T-shirt so another problem arose. So I gathered the committee in charge for a round table discussion. We came up with a solution, we need to contribute or divide all the expenses in this activity. The estimated expenses are 23,000 more or less. If we divide it by all the teaching and non-teaching staff it was estimated to pay 420 pesos. Which is also a burden to them. So I told the committee to call for an assembly to discuss it in a body. Then it was agreed to sell another stab of raffle tickets to solve the expenses. Then it was solved. Now it's true that through unity there is always success.
By the way, the first plan of our PTA Officials to raise funds is to sell PTA Raffle Tickets with a cause. As time passed by I realized that we needed to merge the raffle draw with the Alumni Homecoming to hit two birds on one stone. Then it was carried out by the PTA Officials. Then the raffle tickets were produced in the second week of January 2024.
As I look back on how we prepared for the activity I am amazed that in a short period, everything went well. I am so thankful that God gave me these people who helped me make this possible. All the PTA Officials headed by our active PTA President Hon. Russel Ornopia and all the teachers in Ilihan Integrated School. I know how stressful the preparation was. As a School Leader, I let them feel my all-out support despite how busy I am. I attended a one-week workshop seminar at the Hotel Fortuna one week before the said activity. However, my absence did not hinder to pursuit of the Alumni Homecoming.
While I was attending the seminar I also brought with me 11 stabs of raffle tickets. I sold them all. It was a big help for the PTA Association.
And then the right times came, January 27, 2024, was the day the Lord made for the First Grand Alumni Homecoming 2024. This is now the Reconnecting time for them. I am so glad that though it is not that many, we have registrants of more than 100 people. This is enough for the start. Many want to join but they don't have the budget for registration. Maybe next time if there is someone who will shoulder the food they will join.
We started a motorcade from Ilihan Integrated School to Barangay Libjo to Barangay Goyong. This is to let the community know that we are serious about welcoming them back to their home when their innocent mind open to reality.
After the motorcade, the mass was followed for we will be blessed with our activity. The presiding priest is one of the alumni Fr. Expedito II Torivillas in short Fr. Torvz.
Then lunch was served after the mass.
I am very thankful to Capitancillo Catering Services for extending their time until we're done with the activity. The tables and chairs were used from the start until the end of the program.
At 12:30 noon the opening program was started. After my welcome message, all the teaching force both in elementary and secondary departments joined to offer a welcome dance.
There are lots of activities prepared by the assigned committee. As I observed the alumni enjoyed it a lot. We conducted an election for the IIS Alumni Association Officers. In which the appointed President is Engineer Susan Ornopia-Aroa an Assistant District Engineer of Cebu First Engineering Office of DPWH, Vice President Dr. Rowena L. Brian our Public School District Supervisor (PSDS), and the rest of the officers who also have a great accomplishment in life. This is now the Rebuilding time of IIS, they will share their blessings with the new learners in the school.
The raffle draw was executed and it was fun. Before that, Mrs. Aurelia Enriquez one of the retired teachers of IIS helped a lot in selling the remaining tickets during lunchtime. I was amazed that when she mentioned the names of her students before they would never say no. How grateful they are to Maam Au. And it was lucky enough that the winner of the grand prize the led smart TV 32 inches was from the group. I am so happy for that. We also gave tribute to all the retired teachers to honor them for their contribution to the life of the alumni. There were also games that the alumni enjoyed ao much. We can hear laughter around the corner. They danced, sang, and got drunk until the owner of the sound system surrendered because they also had another booking that night 😁. So happy to see them enjoying their batchmates. Hopefully, we can be together again at the next alumni homecoming. We are planning for the Secondary Department when the right time comes.
