I think this is the first time I have written for a HivePH Blogging contest. Well.. not only because I like the topics for this month... I also don't want to let this month pass without joining the contest... why? June is my BIRTH MONTH!!!

For this post, I chose:
"Andaming pabago bago ng DepEd sa schoolyear. Kung may option kang pumili, Ano ang mas gugustuhin mo: Bakasyon ng June o May pasok ng June?"
As I answer this question, I will also share why DepEd changed the schedule in the first place, and why the school opening is changing each year after.
The Pandemic
The school calendar drastically changed after the Pandemic hit the country back in 2020. By March of that year, the first community quarantine was implemented, ending the school year by a couple of weeks shorter. The following school year was almost canceled. However, the Department of Education (DepEd) decided to resume the classes in the last week of August, but with a different scenario. No face-to-face classes.
The private schools had the option to give online classes, modular (where the learners read and answer the learning modules), or a combination of the two. The public schools went for a modular mode of learning. For the time being it became the "New Normal"
Slowly Going Back to the Old Normal
Since the school year started late in August (some schools started in September), it ended in the last week of May or the first week of June.
In the school year 2021-2022, partial face-to-face classes resumed. The following school year, the classes started a bit early. Still, the school year ended in May. That's when we started to feel another problem. The Summer Heat!
Several students and teachers suffered from heat-related illnesses, including heat stroke. The last school year (2023-2024) was worse. The high heat index which lasted for more than two months forced the DepEd to revert to online/modular classes.
Vacation or Back to School in June?
Surely, the summer season, from March to May, is not suitable for classes, especially for Basic and Secondary education. It's the time to go out to the beach or go somewhere cool like Baguio. It's the best time to go on vacation.
June is already the rainy season. And at this time, the weather swings from one extreme to another like a pendulum. When it rains it pours. However, after the rain, it was scorching hot! Thus, it's no longer a good month for a vacation.
Therefore, if I were to choose? I'd rather be in school in June.
