Greenland Adventure for Our Wedding Anniversary Celebration

April 14, 2024

Last Tuesday, April 9th, the Philippines celebrated the Day of Valor or "Araw ng Kagitingan". That day is also our wedding anniversary date. Since it's a non-working holiday, we celebrated our anniversary with a little trip.

With my wife's extended family, we went to Greenland. No, I don't mean the Greenland in Europe. Not Greenland, Arizona as well...

The Greenland I am referring to is a little piece of land near the beach in Carles, Iloilo, Philippines.

We traveled about an hour and a half from our place.

It wasn't a resort but it had a beautiful view. The entrance fee is only PHP 10.00 per person. That is less than $0.20

The place has a wide, open, grassy area with a few trees that offer some shade. The summer heat turned the grasses dry and brown though. My sister-in-law who recommended the place said when they went to that place a few months ago, the area was so green. Perhaps, that's why they named it Greenland.

We stayed under a tree. There is a long bamboo table there with bamboo benches on both sides. It wasn't for free though. We rented that for PHP200 or a little less than $4.00.

The view is scenic, however, the beach itself is rocky and quite slippery. I thought I should have bought a new pair of aqua shoes. I had to do with my flip-flops given the situation.

By the time we arrived, the tide was a bit low but it was coming in.

Fortunately, we found a better spot. It was about a hundred meters away from our table, but the shore was covered with crushed corals. Not sand, but it's much better than the rocks on the other side.

Walking on the water is still tricky though. The sea floor is still covered with rocks. My six-year-old son called it "not a normal beach". That's because the beach in our city is covered with dark but fine sand.

I will let these photos tell the rest of the story...

After lunch, we went back to our swimming spot. The tide was a bit higher by then. This it's a good time to swim. After a while though, the tide started to recede. And the heat started to get more intense.

We got out of the water and changed. We just stayed in the shade for a while.

Then my eldest son remembered what I told him earlier of what we will do when the tide receded...
Tide pool hunt! This will be our first and I will share more photos of that in my next post

Until then...

Thanks For Reading.
