Mi ex esposo y yo estuvimos un año intentándolo, pero no llegaba el ansiado momento. Estábamos preocupados, llegamos a pensar que teníamos problemas para tener hijos. >When I got married at the age of 19, it wasn't long before I wanted to have a child. La doctora pide que me realice unos exámenes. Me los hice y al tener los resultados asisto nuevamente a la consulta. Se los entregué a la doctora quien sentada en su escritorio, revisaba los exámenes. Yo le observaba atentamente su rostro y percibía que algo no estaba bien. Entonces levantó su mirada y me explica que uno de los resultados del examen llamado toxoplasmosis, {que muchas madres lo conocen], había salido alterado. >In spite of everything, after a few months I managed to get pregnant. I go to the doctor to start my check-up. The doctor asked me to undergo some tests. I had them done and when I got the results, I went to the doctor's office again. I gave them to the doctor, who was sitting at her desk, reviewing the tests. Lo primero que les recomiendo — nos dice la doctora con voz calma, pero firme — es que repitan el examen en otro laboratorio. Y luego de eso procedió a explicarnos lo que podría pasar si el resultado de ese nuevo examen también salía positivo: — Eso podría dañar al feto. La toxoplasmosis es una enfermedad causada por un parasito que está en el cuerpo de la mujer y que muchas vece se activa, especialmente en las mujeres embarazadas y sale para alimentarse del bebe y eso trae sus consecuencias. Además, — continuó explicándome — puede que el bebé no se forme como es debido ya que el parásito empieza a destruir alguna parte de sus órganos, puede nacer ciego, deformado, quizás con problemas físicos o mentales. El punto era que obligatoriamente tenía que realizarme nuevamente el examen para descartar cualquier posibilidad de que estuviera contagiada. > — What do you mean by that? - we asked. Salimos de la clínica, contactamos a amigos y familiares que nos recomendaran un laboratorio confiable. Al tener la información, nos dirigimos hacia el laboratorio y me realicé el examen ese mismo día. Al día siguiente, al tener los resultados el examen me dirijo a la consulta. Al llegar, me atendieron de inmediato. Les confieso que estaba asustada, tenía miedo de lo que diría la doctora sobre los resultados. >**GETTING OUT OF THE DOUBTS**. >I was scared with all that the doctor had told us. We left the clinic, contacted friends and family who could recommend a reliable lab. Once we had the information, we went to the lab and I took the test that same day. >The next day, when I got the results of the test, I went to the office. When I arrived, they attended to me immediately. El examen salió positivo. La doctora nos dijo que tenía que interrumpirme el embarazo, en pocas palabras no iba a tener a mi bebé. Al principio no estuve de acuerdo, ¡me parecía absurdo! ¿cómo podría pasar algo así? ¡No quería que me sacaran a mi hijo, tanto que luche parar tener un hijo y que me digan así no más que no lo dejarían nacer! De solo pensar que no iba a tener a mi hijo en mis brazos me daba mucho dolor. Le pregunté a la doctora que si no me podía realizar otro examen para estar más seguros, entonces accedió y nos mandó a la ciudad de Caracas a que me hiciera el examen en el laboratorio que queda en la Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV). Al ser un laboratorio de alta confiabilidad, dependiendo del resultado de los exámenes debíamos tomar una decisión. > The doctor started to check them and they don't know what happened. Cuando regresamos a la casa no sabíamos que hacer porque no teníamos el dinero para viajar. Mi hermana mayor se ofreció a acompañarme, pero aun no habíamos conseguido el dinero, pasaron algunos días y el padre del niño ya tenía el dinero, para viajar. Mi hermana hizo una llamada telefónica contactando a su cuñado que precisamente vivía en Caracas quien gestionó todo y al nosotros llegar allá, nos llevó donde se encontraba el laboratorio. Me hice el examen. Ahora quedaba otra parte difícil. El examen lo entregaban en tres días. ¿Cómo íbamos a hacer para que ese examen llegara a nuestras manos? (nosotros vivíamos en Apure). No podíamos quedarnos y tampoco teníamos el dinero para pagar un envío. Mi hermana le explica a su cuñado lo que estaba pasando y él dijo que siendo así las cosas, él se encargaría de retirarlo y enviárnoslo por MRW. Eso me tranquilizó y nos fuimos a nuestra casa en Apure a esperar que llegara el resultado. >I didn't feel well at all, I felt anxious. Estaba muy ansiosa y expectante. — ¿Saldría positivo el examen? ¿Tendría a mi hijo? ¿Por qué me pasaba esto a mí? — Eran las preguntas que me hacía a cada momento. Por fin llega a nuestras manos el resultado. Inmediatamente se lo llevamos a la doctora quien los revisó y ¿a que no adivinan qué? El examen decía lo siguiente. ##### *“Este tipo de parasito en la sangre no implica ningún riesgo para el feto. Es inofensivo”.* >It was a long three days. I was very anxious and expectant. - Would the test be positive, would I have my son, why was this happening to me? - These were the questions I kept asking myself. >Finally we got our hands on the result. We immediately took it to the doctor who checked it and guess what? The test said the following. >>##### *"This type of blood parasite does not pose any risk to the fetus. It is harmless.* Cuando la doctora nos leyó el resultado sentí una paz y un alivio dentro de mí, ya que iba a poder tener a mi hijo.. Aunque en un principio la doctora me quiso interrumpir el embarazo por las razones ya mencionadas, no me di por vencida. Cuando recordaba aquellas palabras que decía la doctora, me entraba un poco de miedo, aun así no quería perder sin haber luchado por la vida de mi hijo. Y eso me impulsaba a buscar opciones que me permitieran mantener la esperanza. Le doy gracias a Dios por darme las fuerzas y no dejarme rendir ante la situación. Hoy ya casi por cumplir diez años, estoy orgullosa de él. Es un niño sano y fuerte, hemos pasado momentos difíciles, pero también felices. Esta es la historia de uno de mis hijos más adelante les estaré hablando de sus habilidades, destrezas y logros.
