HIVE Camp 2021: Die Überfahrt / The passage

Intro

Für mich war die Reise zum HIVE Camp 2021 vor allem ein kleiner Urlaub. Entsprechend gmütlich habe ich den ersten Tag verbracht. Um den Stress der Landstraßen durch Österreich und die Schweiz zu umgehen war die Autofähre das Mittel der Wahl. In diesem Post gibt es Bilder von der Überfahrt nach Romanshorn zu sehen. Viel Spaß!

For me, the trip to HIVE Camp 2021 was primarily a short vacation. Accordingly, I spent the first day comfortably. To avoid the stress of the country roads through Austria and Switzerland, the car ferry was the means of choice. In this post you can see pictures from the crossing to Romanshorn. Have fun!

Boarding

Als Landratte habe ich immer schon Respekt vor den Schiffen und dem Wasser unter ihnen gehabt. Die Ticketpreise für ein kleines Auto liegen bei 23-26 Euro für die einfache Fahrt. Man spart sich somit 70 km auf der Straße und hat Zeit zum Fotografieren. Alle Schiffe bieten die Bezahlung an Bord an, einfacher geht es nicht. Zuerst schaue ich mir das Ablegen der "Romanshorn" an.

As a landlubber, I've always had respect for the ships and the water below them. The ticket prices for a small car are 23-26 euros for a one-way trip. You save 70 km on the road and have time to take photos. All ships offer payment on board, it couldn't be easier. First I look at the departure of the "Romanshorn".

Das Partyboot liegt an der Pier und wartet auf die Wiederinbetriebnahme, Diskotheken sind ja weiterhin untersagt.

Und dann geht es endlich an Bord, ich bin der zweite in der Reihe.

And then I'm finally on board, second in line.

Vorsichtshalber lege ich das Ticket wie einen Parkschein gut sichtbar im Auto ab und verlasse den Wagen wie die anderen Gäste auch.

As a precaution, I put the ticket like a parking ticket in the car where it is clearly visible and leave the car like the other guests.

Der Hafen von Friedrichshafen, das weiße Gebäude ist das Zeppelinmuseum, der Turm an der Hafenausfahrt eine Aussichtsplattform.

The port of Friedrichshafen, the white building is the Zeppelin Museum, the tower at the port exit is a viewing platform.

Die Taue sind gelöst und das Schiff bewegt sich. Rückwärts und Vorwärts sind hier gleich, das Schiff ist steuertechnisch symmetrisch aufgebaut.

The ropes are loosened and the ship is moving. Backwards and forwards are the same here, the ship is constructed symmetrically in terms of steering.

Recht zügig geht es durch das enge Hafenbecken und vorbei am Turm hinaus auf den großen See.

It goes quickly through the narrow harbor basin and past the tower out onto the large lake.

Schweiz in Sicht / Switzerland in sight

Ab der Mitte des Sees wird der Blick nach Süden klarer und ich bekomme einen ersten Eindruck der schweizerischen Landschaft. Gewaltige Wolkenformationen steigen empor und verbinden sich mit den höher gelegenen Schichten. Ein Schauspiel wie ich es bisher nicht gesehen hatte.

From the middle of the lake the view to the south becomes clearer and I get a first impression of the Swiss landscape. Enormous cloud formations rise and connect with the higher layers. A show like I had never seen before.

Blick zurück / Looking back

Die Fahrt ist genau 12 km lang und dauert 45 MInuten. Auf dem Weg passieren wir in der Mitte die tiefste Stelle des Sees mit über 400 Metern. Nun erscheint Friedrichshafen im Sonnenschein unter einer lebhaften Wolkendecke.

The journey is exactly 12 km and takes 45 minutes. On the way we pass in the middle the deepest part of the lake with over 400 meters. Now Friedrichshafen appears in the sunshine under a lively cloud cover.

Das Schwesterschiff kommt uns entgegen, das Ziel der Fahrt, Romanshorn kommt in Sicht.

The sister ship comes towards us, the destination of the journey, Romanshorn comes into view.

Mit einem Bild des Hafens von Romanshorn beende ich den Bericht der Überfahrt. Noch wenige Minuten und ich werde das HIVE Camp ansteuern, es ist Montag Nachmittag, kein Regen und eine angenehme Temperatur.

I end the report of the crossing with a picture of the port of Romanshorn. A few more minutes and I'll head for the HIVE Camp, it's Monday afternoon, no rain and a pleasant temperature.
