Wie ich sicher schon mehrfach erwähnt habe, wohnen wir am schönen Niederrhein nicht weit von der deutsch-holländischen Grenze entfernt. Deshalb führt uns der Weg auch häufiger ins Nachbarland, vor allem am Wochenende.
Vor ein paar Wochen waren wir in Gennep und da ist uns diese Karte aufgefallen mit mehreren Wanderrouten. Da wir an jenem Tag nicht so viel Zeit hatten, haben wir uns vorgenommen, noch einmal wiederzukommen und eine der Routen zu laufen.
Dieser Tag war heute.
As I'm sure I've already mentioned several times, we live in the beautiful Lower Rhine region not far from the German-Dutch border. That's why we often head to the neighboring country, especially at the weekend.
A few weeks ago we were in Gennep and noticed this map with several hiking routes. As we didn't have that much time that day, we decided to come back and walk one of the routes.
That day was today.
Einer der Gründe, warum ich gerne nach Gennep fahre ist der dortige Jumbo-Supermarkt mit dieser tollen Auswahl von verschiedensten Bieren. Hier finde ich immer etwas neues zum probieren. So eine Auswahl an Bieren habe ich noch in keinem Super- oder Getränkemarkt in Deutschland gesehen.
Auch heute habe ich mir ein paar "Tröpfchen" mitgenommen um damit am #BEERSATURDAY vom @detlev teilzunehmen.
One of the reasons why I like going to Gennep is the Jumbo supermarket there with this great selection of different beers. I always find something new to try here. I have never seen such a selection of beers in any supermarket or drinks store in Germany.
Today I also picked up a few "drops" to take part in @detlev's #BEERSATURDAY.
Bevor es aber ein Bier gibt, müssen erst ein paar Meter gewandert werden. Los ging die Tour in Gennep am alten Rathaus. Ein echt schönes und altes Häuschen.

Danach ging es dann raus aus Gennep einen kleinen weg und dann die Straße entlang in Richtung Ottersum. Die Strecke war ehrlich gesagt dann doch nicht so idyllisch wie man das von andrre Wanderrouten kennt. Entlang der Straße mussten wir immer wieder rechts ran und Autos und Fahrräder passirren lassen.

In Ottersum angekommen ging die Wanderroute dann an der örtlichen Fussballanlage vorbei und anschließend über die Wiesen und Felder des Nierstales. Die Warnschilder vor den Kühen wsren unbegründet da uns hier keine Tiere entgegen kamen.
Once we arrived in Ottersum, the hiking route took us past the local football pitch and then across the meadows and fields of the Nier valley. The warning signs about the cows were unfounded as no animals came towards us here.
Der Wanderweg über die Wiesen stellte sich dann doch als beschwerlich heraus. Das Gras und die Wildlumen waren mehr als Hüfthoch. Wir hätten hier eine Machete gebraucht um uns den Weg freizuschlagen. Füf m7cb ging das ja noch aber für unsere Tochter war es dann doch ein bisschen zu viel.
The hiking trail across the meadows turned out to be difficult after all. The grass and wild flowers were more than waist-high. We would have needed a machete to clear the path. It was fine for m7cb, but it was a bit too much for our daughter.
Nach ca. 1 Kilometer verließen wir die Strecke über die Felder und gelangten so in das Örtchen Ottersum wo uns sofort eine Bank dazu einlud, eine Rast einzulegen. Zeit also, das zuvor erworbene Bier zu trinken. Ich habe mich für ein Weißbier der Texel-Brauerei entschieden.
After about 1 kilometer, we left the route via the fields and arrived in the village of Ottersum, where a bench immediately invited us to take a break. Time to drink the beer we had bought earlier. I opted for a wheat beer from the Texel Brewery.

Vom Geschmack her ist es ein würziges Weißbier, was sicherlich von dem Koriander und den Zitrusfrüchten herkommt. Seifig schmeckt es mir jedoch nicht (Koriander....). Ich hätte es mir etwas kühler gewünscht aber da ich es zuvor im Supermarkt gekauft hatte war es halt nicht ausreichend gekühlt.
In terms of taste, it's a spicy wheat beer, which certainly comes from the coriander and citrus fruits. However, it doesn't taste soapy to me (coriander....). I would have liked it to be a little cooler, but as I had bought it in the supermarket beforehand, it just wasn't chilled enough.
Fazit
Die Wanderroute war nicht so schön wie erwartet. Dafür war das Bier gut und ich habe noch zwei weitere Schätze in meinem Kühlschrank stehen. Das "Skiller Wit" werde ich mir noch einmal kaufen und dann kalt aus einem Glas trinken. Ich bin mir ziemlich sicher, das hierbei der Geschmack noch besser wird. Da ich sowieso in ein paar Tage für eine Woche nach Ameland fahre werde ich sicher eind Gelegenheit dazu finden.
Conclusion
The hiking route was not as beautiful as I had expected. But the beer was good and I have two more treasures in my fridge. I will buy the "Skiller Wit" again and drink it cold from a glass. I'm pretty sure that the taste will be even better. As I'm going to Ameland for a week in a few days anyway, I'm sure I'll find an opportunity to do so.
