Another Saturday, another #beertasting! 276th in a row!
I had quite a busy day. Morning at sea on the island of Pag, cleaning up around the caravan, then a three-hour drive home, a couple of hours picking grapes in my mum's backyard, and now I'm going to have two new beers.
One was waiting for me from the Czech Republic, I picked it up in Prague three weeks ago, and one in the Plodin market in Novi Vinodolski, as my wife and I were driving home along the Adriatic Highway.
Both are beers of disaster. What ? ... I will explain later what I meant.
Vukovarsko Domače
Brewed by K Pivovari, Vukovar, Croatia.
Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 4.5 ABV, 18 IBU. It's Pale Lager style, well balanced but without solid flavors.
What do master brewers say?
Vukovar Domače beer stands out for its clean appearance in the color of pale straw. Every true beer lover will be delighted by malts with a hint of sweetness and balanced Aurora and Styrian Golding hop flavors that leave only a slight bitterness in the mouth.
This sounds good. The brewery is relatively new. It was built after the so-called Patriotic War, when the Serbs completely destroyed, almost razed to the ground, this Croatian town. Battle of Vukovar. Well, that was a disaster. Enough about that.
The beer is light yellow in color and the head is creamy. It has no smell. It goes down the throat smoothly, it's fresh, the very slight bitterness of the hops and the sweetness of the malt is perceptible in the mouth, and there are no other aromas or flavors.
A discreet hop of bitterness lingers in the aftertaste for some time.
A refreshing and drinkable beer. Nothing special but a very balanced lager, not watery at all, as you would expect from the lower alcohol content. You drink it with pleasure to quench your thirst and want another.
btw: "Domače" means English "homemade".

Brewed by Chernobeer Brewing, Hrdlív, Central Bohemia, Czech Republic.
Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.5% ABV, 33 IBU. It's APA, American Pale Ale style beer, refreshing and average-strength ale, and less bitterness than American IPAs.
What do master brewers say?

Cloudy orange color, foam average. Smells very much of something, I don't know exactly what. Maybe honey and malt? A sip goes down the throat, the mouth first tastes hop bitterness, not too much, but then the tropical fruit and honey flavors take over.
Too much honey for my taste and hop bitterness. I hope it's not radioactive. No, I'm kidding. The hop bitterness lingers in the aftertaste for a while.
I don't know what to say.
There is something too much in this beer and I don't like it, the honey flavor is too pronounced, and together with the bitterness of the hops I don't find a good combination. It's not like anything, neither Belgian styles nor American styles.
Maybe I'm too conservative because this is an 'unconventional fusion' and I don't accept difference? What do I know?
Maybe they should stick to lagers, they do that perfectly...
