Beer Tasting: Sankt Bartholomäus Hefeweizen And Vizir Black Jack

Hello everyone! 🍻

I don't know what the weather is like where you are, but here it's scorching hot, so from 12 noon to 6 pm there's nobody around. Everybody is chilling somewhere, the fridges and the beers in them are running at full capacity. Just like at my house.
The beer has been chilling since morning and now, in this afternoon siesta (it's 34 deg Celsius outside), it's time for #beersaturday, 321st in a row.

And I have two chilled beers in front of me, one German and one Slovenian, very different, one wheat and one stout.
#beertasting can begin!

🍻 😎 🍻

Sankt Bartholomäus Hefeweizen

Brewed by Privatbrauerei Eichbaum, Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Bottle, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.2% ABV. IBU N/A.
It's a Hefeweizen or Weissbier, which means that is a wheat beer with high carbonation and banana yeast character.

What do the Master Brewers say?

Golden, cloudy. White foam, rather small volume. In the smell of banana, yeast, clove. On the palate slender to slightly malty. Moderately yeasty. Dominant wheat malt flavor, barley pale. Lots of sweetness. Lime aftertaste. Verdict: Simple, drinkable wheat.

Well, I haven't tried any wheat beer for a while. Anyway, I got it from the local Eurospin shop.

The beer is cloudy golden in color, the head is solid and creamy, and it lasts for quite some time. I smell the yeast. It goes down the throat smoothly, there is no hop bitterness in the mouth, but there is a malty sweetness and a discreet taste of banana, bread, and maybe vanilla. In the aftertaste, it all disappears quickly.

It's cold, so it's refreshing, but otherwise nothing special. An average wheat beer, maybe the banana flavor could have been more pronounced and it would have stuck in my memory. But as it's chilled it's acceptable. But that's the way it's going to stay for this tasting, it won't be in my fridge.

Vizir Black Jack Stout

Brewed by Pivovarna Vizir, Črnomelj, Slovenia.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 6.0% ABV, IBU N/A
It's Stout style, black beer with strong roasted flavors of coffee and dark chocolate.

What do the Master Brewers say?

Black. Coffee-like. Intense. A completely dark, almost black stout that simply captivates. We have used very roasted malts, which give the beer a pleasantly coffee-like note and a taste of dark, noble chocolate.

It's just the right time for afternoon coffee. I drink it without sugar. I got the beer from the local Lidl store.

The beer is black, there is little head, and even that disappears quickly. It smells burnt. A sip goes down the throat smoothly, I immediately taste the bitterness of roasted malt, it's like eating bitter coffee, a very pronounced bitter taste, I miss the chocolate.
The bitterness of the coffee lingers in the aftertaste for quite a while, then it all slowly disappears.

I wasn't impressed by this beer, I was expecting more of a dark chocolate flavor, which was nowhere to be found. Just an intense aroma of burnt malt that refuses to leave the mouth. Well, I guess some people like this kind of beer, but I don't.

Let's just say it's a substitute for a strong, alcohol-dosed afternoon coffee :)

And what am I listening to as I write this and taste the beer? Again, something from my yesterday #newtunes post. Arnold Dreybratt's minimalist microtonal and repetitive music.
