Decluttering Art Supplies
Spring and fall are a big garbage collection day in this area. I am cleaning up my house again. This early spring, I decluttered some of my challenging stuff. Part one was my shoes. Then, this time was my art supplies.

Decluttering my shoes was tougher than art supplies. However, art supplies were also challenging for me to get rid of. I decided to have some simple rules when I clean up.
For example...,
Ask yourself
・"Do I really like them?"
・"Did I use them recently?"
・"Am I going to use them soon?"
・"How damaged are they?"
・"Are these replaceable?"
・"What is my priority for now?"
・"Are they useful for my recent work or life?"
After asking the above, then tell yourself,
・"Don't worry, I can buy new products if I need them again someday in the future."
・"You can concentrate on your recent work or life for now without these things."
・"Take photos of them if you still feel a little bit of difficulty decluttering them."
I tried these simple question times by myself and finished cleaning my art products this time.
I stored paints, brushes, and various other art supplies inside this toolbox. While it's handy to have, I tend to accumulate more things when I have storage space available. This time, I decided to get rid of this box. In doing so, I realized that I don't need to fill it with items I rarely use.
This was a bit shocking for me. I noticed that the paints had become too old to use. I don't want to use old paints the next time I paint something. Therefore, I decided to get rid of them this time.
I want to focus on my recent studies and work. Additionally, I want to continue creating paper and digital artwork, which I've been enjoying recently. After deciding to limit my artwork space, I felt refreshed and experienced less pressure.
Moreover, after taking down some of my artwork from the walls and seeing more space, I felt like my house had become bigger. Interestingly, with fewer paintings, I have more open space. I selected my favourite painting to hang on the wall without many others. This also helped clear my mind. I decluttered a few of my favourite paintings as well.
I have some old paintbrushes that I kept 'just in case'... But this 'just in case' scenario is troublesome because it never actually happens. If I decide to paint a new piece soon, I'd prefer to use nicer brushes that aren't damaged or too old.

アート品の処分
今住んでいる地域では春と秋が大型ゴミの回収時期です。最近家の掃除をしています。今年の春は特に処分するのに踏ん切りがつかないものの捨て活をしています。前回は靴でした。今回はアート用品の処分をしました。

靴の処分はアート用品の処分よりも難しかったですが、アート用品も私にとってはかなかのチャレンジでした。処分には自分なりのちょっとしたルールを設けました。
例えば…、
・「それは本当に好きなもの？」
・「それは最近使った？」
・「近々使う予定はある？」
・「どのくらいダメージがある？」
・「もし捨てたら代替えが可能なもの？」
・「今優先すべきことはなに？」
・「それは今の自分のやるべきことや生活にとって大事なもの？」
というよに、自分に問いかけてみます。
上の問いかけの後に、さらに自分に次のような感じで声をかけます。
・「大丈夫、また必要になった時に新しいものを買えるから」
・「今やっていることや生活に集中するために、今は処分しよう」
・「もしどうしても踏ん切りがつかなかったら、写真に撮って思い出に残せばいいよ」
などなど。
この道具箱の中に絵の具、筆などのアート用品を入れていました。こういった道具箱に物をしまっておくと、空いている隙間にどんどん詰め込めてしまいがちです。今回はこの道具箱を処分することにしました。処分すると決めてから思ったのですが、使う頻度が少ないものをわざわざ詰め込んでおく必要はないと思いました。
これはちょっとショックでした。ほとんどの絵の具が古くなり使えないようです。次に何か描くとしても古い絵の具は使いたくないです。今回は絵の具を処分することにしました。
今現在の勉強や仕事に集中したいです。アート作品を作るなら切り絵やデジタルアートに的を絞って作りたいです。アート用品のスペースを厳選したことでスッキリして、プレッシャーが減りました。
さらに壁にかかっていたアートを取り外したことで、部屋の中に空間が広がりました。面白いことに、壁にかかっている絵を少なくすることで部屋が前より広く感じます。壁に飾る絵を厳選することで、その絵に愛着も感じます。これも頭の中をスッキリさせてくれる手立てになったようです。今回は気に入っていた絵も少し処分しました。
「念のため」でとっておいた筆です…。でも。この「念のため」が役に立つときは、ほとんどと言っていいくらいやってきません。この先新しい絵を描くときは、古くないダメージの少ない、いい筆を使って絵を描きたいです。
大型ゴミの日について、また改めて書きたいと思います。
