Last Thursday was a very special day for me. While positive things had been happening throughout the week, they manifested here with even greater force. I was invited to take the April slot on the "poetic tour" in my city, Santiago de Cuba.
The poetic tour is a movement organized by the poet Demian Rabilero along with several institutions since last year, with the aim of giving visibility to the work of various writers in heritage sites. This year, the epicenter of the poetic tour has been the staircase of the Carnival Museum, as this is where the "Generation of the Staircase" used to gather. Taking this as a starting point, all the poets who have taken center stage in 2024 have been young poets who have not yet published books.
El pasado jueves fue un día demasiado especial para mí. Si bien durante la semana fueron sucediendo cosas positivas, aquí se manifestaron con una fuerza superior. Fui invitado a tomar el espacio del mes de abril en la "gira poética" en mi ciudad, Santiago de Cuba.
La gira poética es un movimiento que viene organizando el poeta Demian Rabilero junto a varias instituciones desde el año pasado, con el objetivo de darle visibilidad a la obra de varios escritores en lugares patrimoniales. Este año el epicentro de la gira poética ha sido la escalera del Museo del Carnaval, pues aquí fue donde se reunía anteriormente la "Generación de la escalera". Tomando esto como pie, todos los poetas que han tomado protagonismo este 2024 hemos sido poetas jóvenes, que aún no tenemos libros publicados.
For me, preparing for this day was quite a challenge because what could I do differently that others hadn't already done? It also took me a long time to select and organize the poems I would recite, so that the space would flow organically, and each message could connect with the audience.
*Para mí, prepararme para este día fue todo un reto porque ¿qué podía hacer de diferente que otros no hubiesen hecho ya? También me ocupó mucho tiempo seleccionar y organizar los poemas que declamaría, de manera que el espacio fluyera orgánicamente, y que el mensaje de cada uno pudiera conectar con el público. *
I was fortunate to have the presence of many people who have been supporting me since the beginning. Such is the case of the choir I belong to, Vox Lucis, which dared to sing outdoors, regardless of the noise of cars passing by on the street.
I also had the opportunity to pay tribute to 5 writers who have marked my career so far, as a way of thanking them. They were Demian Rabilero himself, for inspiration, Reinaldo García Blanco and Lisbeth Lima, for their immense teachings, and Yoel Cipriano and Margarita Morlot, for being the most faithful companions I have found in this generation of writers that frames us.
Tuve la suerte de contar con la presencia de muchas personas que desde mis inicios me han estado apoyando. Tal es el caso del coro al que pertenezco, Vox Lucis, que se atrevió a cantar al aire libre, independientemente de los ruidos de los carros pasando por la calle.
También tuve la oportunidad de rendir homenaje a 5 escritores que hasta el momento han marcado mi carrera, a manera de agradecimiento para con ellos. Ellos fueron el propio Demian Rabilero, por la inspiración, Reinaldo García Blanco y Lisbeth Lima, por sus inmensas enseñanzas, y Yoel Cipriano y Margarita Morlot, por ser los compañeros más fieles que he podido encontrar en esta generación de escritores que nos enmarca.
At the end of the event, although very thirsty, I ended up feeling very grateful. This was another one of those moments when I felt that all my past efforts have turned into a giant ball of visible results. And clearly, I was happy.
Al final del espacio, aunque con mucha sed, terminé sintiéndome muy agradecido. Fue este otro de los instantes en los que sentí que todos mis esfuerzos de antaño se han vuelto una bola gigante de resultados visibles. Y claramente, fui feliz.
