Wow where has this year gone? 2020 has been a bit of a horror show itself so if I had to say the scariest thing I've seen lately it would probably the news of 2020 lol.
Although we don't celebrate this holiday here because well people knock on your door asking for food here every day and are dressed funny is the norm in South Africa, I guess it wouldn't have much of a different day.
In fact since the lock downs, I've been getting between 3-5 knocks on the door per day asking for food or some donation, really sad and scary and its only getting worse.
Anyway, when it comes to fictional horrors, I'd have to go with the following.

My Reasons for the Nomination
The Conjouring is a story that follows Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren who work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse.
The farm house was built on land that witch craft and murders had taken place on and this trauma has left demonic spirits lingering around the property and making life hell for the owners.
The movie does well to work in a interesting storyline that captivates you and seems pretty plausible, it also uses jump scares very well and the soundtrack will really get you.
Also the pay off of the battle with the demon will leave you cringing at times especially when combined with the confined spaces of a home.
A home is a place where we are supposed to feel safe so having something that attacks your safe space is highly unnerving for most of us I am sure.

My Reasons for the Nomination
The platform plays out in A vertical prison with one cell per level. Two people per cell. One only food platform and two minutes per day to feed from up to down. An endless nightmare trapped in The Hole.
It is a grotesque depiction of what people are willing to do for food and how we as a people are driven by greed to do the most disgusting things for the sake of survival and how the current class system shows us the worst side of humanity.
It's not only creepy but it messes with your mind and questions a lot of the behaviour we have as humans and what you would be willing to do to survive.

My Reasons for the Nomination
It follows is about A young woman who is followed by an unknown supernatural force after a sexual encounter. Each time someone does not pass on the curse through sex with another person they are forever plagued by this demon.
It calls into question ones willingness to sacrifice others for your own survival and the lengths people are willing to go. While the curse may be horrible it could be stopped but because we as humans are slaves to our desires such as sexual desires we keep the curse going and it really strikes a cord with you.
Also its pretty gory at times.
