¡Hola Hivers!

Hi Hivers! Today we are activating the blog again to talk about a topic that, within the @aliento team, we have noticed that seems to be not very clear among several users who make life in #Hive.

This topic is tags, so today we are going to talk about how to improve the use of tags both in Hive and Twitter when it comes to spreading and segmenting our content.

Hablemos de Etiquetas | Let's talk about Tags

Tags are a tool that we use in our posts (and tweets) to give them visibility on the platform.

When we use them in the wrong way, we are not taking advantage of the visibility potential we have at our disposal.

For those who don't understand what we mean by tags, see the following screenshots made on Hive and Twitter, respectively:

Etiquetas en Twitter | Tags in Twitter

As you will see, these have a very similar format on both platforms as they use a pound sign (#) to denote the use of a tag.

Uso correcto de etiquetas | Correct use of tags

When creating our posts in @peakd, we are allowed to place a minimum of 1 tag and a maximum of 10, these will segment the visibility of our content to the specific topics of each one.

There are users that within their tags place things like #appreciator, #ocd, #upmewhale or even #eddiespino (and it's serious) and we must tell them something: THAT WILL NOT GET THEM VOTES!

You are wasting visibility by using tags like that; the fundamental idea is that you use tags that go according to the theme of your publications, for example:

If I am going to post a poem in Spanish, I use the tags #spanish (tag par excellence of posts in Spanish), #literature (for being the main topic of the post), #posh (tag of the POSH curation initiative which you can understand by reading this post), among others.

Etiquetas Especiales | Special Tags

In Hive there are special tags created by projects that work with their own tokens, that is, beyond rewarding the creators of their community with a vote in HIVE, you can reward them in their own front-end (pages) and thus they can obtain other types of rewards.

Among the most popular projects in this regard are:

El orden de las etiquetas | The order of the tags

You have to take into account something quite important: the tags only distribute the content in the blockchain with the first 5 tags of our post (at system level), the rest are only for internal segmentations (PeakD).

The most important tag is the first one, since that will be the one that encompasses in a general way the theme of your post; in most cases, if the content is in Spanish, #spanish is used as the first tag because that way we tell the platform that our content is in Spanish or that it was created by a user whose native language is Spanish.

Keep in mind that the first tag CANNOT BE EDITED and for this reason we must take into account what we want to place in that tag to avoid segmentation problems.

Palabras Finales | Final Words

We will finish this guide on tags in a second part where we will talk about the good use of tags on Twitter.

So, remember guys, don't use tags that have names of curators or whales because that's NOT GOING TO SECURE YOU A VOTE!

Make better use of your visibility tools so you can see how they are going to improve your post rewards.

Also, next time we will be talking about communities (Niches) and how to use them correctly to spread our posts.

From here I say goodbye, but not before thanking the @aliento team and @theycallmedan for the opportunity and the space to grow our beautiful network.
