Well Hive drone fans. Unfortunately there is not a lot you can do to the DJI Mini 3 Pro and still keep it under the the 250 gram limit as it’s already very close.
Checking the scales mine comes in at 247 grams. So even a set of high vis skins would take it over. For the moment I’ve limited it to my registration ID on the sides which is a requirement for some local areas. I think if I struggle seeing it I may give it a light spray with some high vis paint well I have about 3 grams to play with, I’ll keep you posted. I wish DJI had just made the body orange or bright yellow.
Mind you that doesn’t mean there is nothing else to do. I 3D printed a cooling fan mount that uses an 80x80 usb fan to blow air through the rear vents when installing firmware upgrades that are coming thick and fast from DJI as the battery and electronics can get a bit warm when the props aren’t circulating air unlike the bigger Mavic drones there is cooling fan built in to the drone body.
I’ve also managed to find a prop keeper to help protect the props when the drone is in my bag. They come with the DJI Mini 2 as standard but not the Mini 3 Pro keeping costs down I suppose but they are essential and only a few pounds from China so not worth 3D printing.
It’s easy to fit keeps the props in place and the bottom sensors protected.
So have I learnt anything about the Mini 3 Pro well flying it as easy as the Mini 2 and the collision avoidance works a treat. The camera gimbal design is very flimsy and stuck out in front of the drone it’s very vulnerable so I’d better not crash this one.
When I first got the drone fitting the protection cover for the camera was a pain as the gimbal droops under its own weight but there is a knack to it, holding the drone vertical the cover just slips on and clicks into place without issue.
That Hivers took me about a week to work out. It’s not really a mod but its handy to know.
