Band stand renovation

One of the oddities in Newton Abbot is the Victorian band stand in Courtney Park.

Over the past few months it’s been hidden under scaffolding and tarps while it got renovated.

But the wraps came off at the weekend and it does look great.

It’s also good flying practice for a drone if there arn’t any people about. Zipping in and out of the pillars is fun and great for improving your skills and boy do mine need improving. So better not chip any paint off.

Built around 1880/90 possibly for Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee the classic wrought iron structure has really under gone a face lift it was looking rather worse for wear with rust, missing tiles on the roof and flaking paint. According to the local paper the renovation cost around £52K. Some people might disagree but I think it been well spent as it did look a bit ratty and it is an important part of the town’s heritage.
