Another classic British pub

My Dad and I have been going to the Welcome Stranger for a good many years in fact we have followed the owner through 4 pubs over the last 40 years mostly because of the great Sunday Lunches he always servers. Dad and I usually have roast lamb and pint on Sunday even if we order something else we usually end up with lamb as they put the order in as soon as we arrive but we don’t really mind.

The pub is if I’m honest mostly frequented by its patrons for its food situated on the old A38 between the villages of Liverton and Bickington it isn’t close enough to either of them to be called a village local. So any one arriving has to drive. Fortunately it does have a large carpark but even that fills up on a Sunday as its very popular.

As pubs go it’s very dog friendly and you can often see people bring their dogs into the bar and there is always a big jar of dog biscuits on the bar by the till best not mix them up with bar snacks.

So there you have it Hivers a Devon local perfect for Sunday lunch.
