Sunset At The Mines.

The mines of Botallack & Pendeen are a relic of the Tin and copper industry from a bygone era.

Sunsets across the ocean are beautiful here, the light also highlights the chimneys of the old engine houses

The very tip of Cornwall and the north were once the highest concentration of those commodities. For one reason or another, these particular mines were built perilously close to the edge of huge cliffs!

Mining intensity the Cornwall was in its prime by the turn of the 18th century. The amount of metal being extracted led to the construction of a Mining Exchange in Redruth, the so called capital of Cornish mining, by the end of said century.
The area became a very rich, very quickly as did the size of the town.

Unfortunately, when international trading laws changed, copper started to be imported into the country instead! Coupled with workers leaving the country to newer industry abroad, Redruth soon became one of the poorest areas of Cornwall.

There are so many other shells on mine buildings and shafts scattered all over Cornwall and so many wonderful locations to fly. I am sure I will return to all of them at some point!

Take care everyone.
