unconventional art beside the street

in one of my night walks, i came across something quite unique. i have walked past the thing but had to reinspect just to be sure of what it really was. and what i saw made me smile. i have not posted the picture anywhere in the hopes that someday i will find the perfect place where it belongs.

now is the time to share this find. i ran into CCC's Street Art Contest here in hive and this is the perfect place to give this a spotlight.

here is my entry to CCC's Street Art Contest #200

i saw these white things attached on the outside walls of this location. at first, i thought that it was a poster but upon closer look, these were drawings on styrofoam bucket lids. how ingenious! creativity really knows no bounds that even simple mundane things can become works of art. and these were clearly hanged there for display and fun, the holes and holders were too shabby to be for sale. the pieces clearly depicted elements of a japanese festival: lanterns, people in festive garbs, and a mikoshi's adorned roof corner. (a mikoshi is the float people carry during the parade in a japanese festival)

these two were taken on june 6th, a week ago, during the festival seasons here in japan. no wonder the drawings were related to festivals. but i took these pictures too close and is quite difficult to justify whether these were even considered street art if i cannot even prove that they were on the street.

so i went back tuesday, june 11th and made sure to take pictures of the art pieces along the street, at least.

oh my oh my, the ones i originally took were no longer there. those must have been there just for the festival season. lucky me who witnessed those limited art. or maybe they were reused as lids, i have no idea. the place had stacks of beer bottle containers at the side and there were tables inside these "walls". must be a drinking shop? but there were no store labels. i found the spot in google maps in here but still found no clue of what this place is. but one thing was consistent, art pieces were still hanging even in google maps' pics.

i still don't know what the spot was but one thing was sure, they love art. they must have loved art or drawing at least. they love to draw that even unconventional canvasses do not stop them from drawing. and if i had the talent like them, i too would display my work for everyone to see. art, like all beautiful things, should be shared to be appreciated by the masses.

to be honest, i am not sure if this can be considered a street art. but it is on the street and it is art, a quite unique one in fact.

hope you had fun and enjoyed these like me.

as always, stay safe!
