Street Art #310 Madame Gilles, Montreal

It's been several times that I find the surrealistic and colorful posters done by Madame Gilles in the streets of Montreal. Always cool to see a new work of this artist with references from Pop culture to Architecture.

I really like this mix of photos and geometric shapes. This cutting makes me stop each time in the street to find all the references used.

WHERE

Everywhere in Montreal, especially Le Plateau Mont-Royal.

Position on Google Maps

WHO

Madame Gilles is an visual artist based in Montreal. Since her beginnings, she has had a special interest in Pop Art and especially Andy Warhol and Jean- Michel Basquiat. After studying Graphic Art in Montreal, she became interested in Street Art and the urban scene. The artist Shepard Fairey aka Obey has a big influence on his work.

Always on the same format, Madame Gilles mixes shapes and photos, plays with repetition, to create an absolutely incredible graphic collage. She likes to play with pop culture's references ...

... but also architecture :

It looks like the mast of the Olympic Stadium, an architectural icon of the city of Montreal.

Last point, I would like to know where this nickname of Madame Gilles comes from. If someone knows...

WHEN

  • 2019/2020 for the posters in this post but it's been several years that this artist has been displaying her works in the streets.
