Street Art #706 Tribute to Scan (Mural Festival 2024), Montreal

During this year's Mural Festival, a new tribute was paid to a pioneer of StreetArt in Montreal, Alexandre Veilleux aka Alex Scaner aka Scan. He sadly left us too soon in 2017 (you can find a fuller biography at StreetArt #312). But his legend lives on in the streets of Montreal, and today's artists are determined to keep his memory alive.

Pendant le Mural Festival de cette année, un nouvel hommage a été réalisé à un pionnier du StreetArt à Montréal, Alexandre Veilleux aka Alex Scaner aka Scan. Il nous a malheureusement quitté trop tôt en 2017, vous pouvez retrouver une biographie plus complète sur StreetArt #312. Mais sa légende est toujours bien présente dans les rues de Montréal et les artistes actuels ont toujours à cœur de garder sa mémoire bien présente.

On the left in the background, you can see the end of a mural done by Scan and Axe in 2014. And this year, Axe and Zek have “restored” it. That will be for a future post. For this year's tribute, over fifty Montreal graffiti artists left their blaze with Scan's iconic Mr Can Do character at the center.

Sur la gauche au fond, on voit le bout d'une murale faite par Scan et Axe en 2014. Et cette année, Axe et Zek l'ont "restorée". Cela sera pour un prochain post. Pour l'hommage de cette année, plus de cinquante graffeurs de Montréal ont laissé leur blaze avec au centre le personnage emblématique Mr Can Do de Scan.

On boulevard Saint Laurent in Montreal. The mural is just off Graffiti Alley, where in 2023 the artists created another tribute to Scan, see StreetArt #617.

As I said in the introduction, 54 Montreal graffiti artists took part in its creation. Most of the artists whose work I posted in the StreetArt series are present, such as Gavlois, Jaker, Dodo Osé, Axe, Scribe, Serak... In the center, with the contrast of colors, we can see the Mr Can Do character from Scan (the same one found at the Mur Légal de Rouen: StreetArt #705). A lot of Respect for this artist...

Comme je le disais en introduction, 54 graffeurs de Montréal ont participé à son élaboration. La plupart des artistes dont j'ai posté leurs oeuvres dans la série StreetArt sont présents comme Gavlois, Jaker, Dodo Osé, Axe, Scribe, Serak... Au centre, avec le contraste de couleurs, on aperçoit le personnage Mr Can Do de Scan (le même qu'on retrouve au Mur Légal de Rouen : StreetArt #705). Beaucoup de respect pour cet artiste...

This lettering from Serak can be found not far away, just cross Rue Saint-Curthbert and follow Graffiti Alley. The Golden Raccoon (his nickname, I love it 😀) has once again produced some superb Gothic-style lettering.

Ce lettrage de Serak se trouve pas loin, il suffit de traverser la rue Saint-Curthbert et suivre la Graffiti Alley. Le Golden Raccoon (son surnom, j'adore 😀) a encore une fois réalisé un superbe lettrage style gothique.
