Street Art #619 Legal Wall Rouen (May 2023), Montreal

We're back at the Mur Légal Rouen in Montreal to see how this place that is fantastic for artists (and for the pedestrians who cross it) was during the last month of May. I stopped by for the first time on May 18, a Thursday, a little too far from the weekend when the best works are usually done; then on May 23, a Tuesday, with some really beautiful things.

Nous sommes de retour au Mur Légal Rouen à Montréal pour voir comment cet endroit qui est fantastique pour les artistes (et pour les piétons qui le traversent) était durant le dernier mois de mai. Je suis passé un première fois le 18 mai, un jeudi, un peu trop éloigné du weekend ou généralement les meilleurs œuvres sont faites; puis le 23 mai un mardi, avec vraiment des belles choses.

WHERE

On rue de Rouen at railway level in Montreal. Just a reminder: Mur légal Rouen is a place where artists can draw in peace, as the activity is permitted by the city. The red lines on the map represent other walls where Street Art can be found.

Sur le rue de Rouen au niveau de la voie de chemin de fer à Montréal. Juste pour rappel Mur légal Rouen est un endroit ou les artistes peuvent dessiner en toute tranquillité car l'activité est permise par la Ville. WHO

Rebelle et Révolté

I don't know why, but I like these little guys with their simple shapes, probably because they're rebellious and revolted. This is the work of two artists Rebelle et Révolté whose work I started seeing this year. On the other side, there were other little characters.

Je ne sais pas pourquoi mais j'aime bien ces petits bonhommes aux forme simple, sûrement car ils sont rebelles et révoltés. Il s'agit du travail de deux artistes Rebelle et Révolté dont j'ai commencé à voir les œuvres cette année. De l'autre côté, il y avait d'autres petits personnages.

Aldarwin

Like every time Aldarwin, a Montreal-based Mexican artist, paints at Mur Légal Rouen, it becomes my favorite piece of the day. It's always full of poetry, you go on an adventure thanks to his drawings, like this one where a little guy is trying to defend his house from this huge fish (but are we really in the sea... maybe in space 🤔).

Comme à chaque fois que Aldarwin, artiste mexicain basé à Montréal, peint au Mur Légal Rouen, cela devient mon œuvre préférée de la journée. C'est toujours rempli de poésie, on part à l'aventure grâce à ses dessins comme dans celui là ou un petit bonhomme essaye de défendre sa maison de cet énorme poisson (mais sommes-nous réellement dans la mer... peut être dans l'espace).

Adida Fallen Angel & Omar Bernal

Just after, we find Adida Fallen Angel whose first work of the season at Mur Légal Rouen. It's easy to identify his style, with its eyes and color palette. Next to it is the third mural in the "Dogs of Internet" trilogy by Omar Bernal. I missed the first two episodes but you can check out his instagram post to see where the inspiration came from. I didn't know...

Juste après on retrouve Adida Fallen Angel dont c'était la première œuvre de la saison au Mur Légal Rouen. On retrouve facilement son style avec ces yeux et cette palette de couleur. A côté, il y a la troisième murale de la trilogie des "Dogs of Internet" réalisée par Omar Bernal. J'ai raté les deux premiers épisodes mais vous pouvez aller voir son post instagram pour voir d'où vient l'inspiration. Je ne connaissais pas...

The rest of this side of the road is "normal", though I like the pink paint roller on the left, with its overflow onto the sidewalk. And to finish off this side, we find the famous Mr Can Do by Scan, the only work that hasn't been erased, present here since 2017. And underneath, the lettering is rather well done by an unknown artist.

Le reste du mur est normal, j'aime bien quand même à gauche le rouleau de peinture rose avec le débordement sur le trottoir. Et pour finir ce côté, on retrouve le fameux Mr Can Do de Scan, la seule œuvre qui n'est pas effacée, présente ici depuis 2017. Et en dessous, le lettrage est plutôt bien réussi d'un artiste inconnu.

And for May 18, only the fox with its rose stands out from the crowd, created by Judith Boly and Fleurs. / FR : Et pour le 18 mai, seul le renard avec sa rose ressort du lot réalisé par Judith Boly et Fleurs.

Origami L'Explorateur

We recognize the style of Origami, which mixes works often featuring portraits drawn with black lines and crane origami. The phrase Faites voyages les Origamis (Travel with Origami) often appears, inviting passers-by to take an origami and place it somewhere else.

On reconnait le style de Origami qui mélange des œuvres souvent des portraits tracés avec des lignes noires et des origamis de grue. Il y a souvent la phrase Faites voyages les Origamis qui invitent les passants à prendre un origami pour le déposer dans un autre lieu.

On May 18, there was this portrait of Origami but the cranes had already left. / FR : Le 18 mai, il y avait ce portrait de Origami mais les grues étaient déjà parties.

Gaétan Fontaine

Gaétan Fontaine member of the Vulvette Underground created this colorful little painting. / FR : Gaétan Fontaine membre du Vulvette Underground a réalisé ce petit tableau coloré.

Polographe

Often Polographe, artist and director in the video game industry has made a new 3D character with this baby. One day I'll have to do a post to bring the whole family together, it would make a nice portrait gallery.

Souvent Polographe, artiste et directeur dans l'industrie du jeu-vidéo a réalisé un nouveau personnage avec ce bébé. Il faudra un jour que je fasse un post pour rassembler toute la famille, cela ferait une belle galerie de portraits.

(Noke) & Gallium.B

And we end this month of May 2023 at Mur Légal Rouen with this lettering by Noke (not sure at $100 from the artist) and this bird's head by Gallium.B, a Montreal-based artist. I think this is the first time I've seen one of his mural, usually it's more stickers. I hope he'll start doing larger works. It should be worth it.

Et nous terminons ce mois de mai 2023 au Mur Légal Rouen avec ce lettrage de Noke (pas sûr à 100$ de l'artiste) et de cette tête d'oiseau réalisé par Gallium.B, artiste basé à Montréal. Je crois que c'est la première fois que je vois des murales, généralement il s'agit de stickers. J'espère qu'il va se lancer dans des œuvres plus grandes. Cela devrait valoir le coup.

As you can see, this viaduct is best visited at the beginning of the week. The artists have more time on weekends to create quality works. During the week, it's more often a case of tagging, but you have to start somewhere before tackling more complex works.

Vous l'avez compris, il faut mieux visiter ce viaduc en début de semaine. Car les artistes ont plus le temps le weekend de réaliser des œuvres de qualité. Au cours de la semaine, il s'agit plus souvent de tags mais il faut bien commencer par quelque chose avant de s'attaquer à des oeuvres plus complexes.
