STREET ART #186 – On the roof of a parking garage in Aalborg, Denmark

This week I will continue with the work that is found in the parking garage in Aalborg. All over each floor of this car park we recognize lots of well-known places and symbols of Aalborg. All of these are found on the top level, but on the opposite side of the art with the Fox, who was visiting and sometimes being active all over Aalborg. The theme is still Aalborg, but again, you have to know the places to be able to understand.

«Nordens Paris» means that Aalborg is seen as Paris of the Nordic countries... The clothepin symbolizes «Aalborgtårnet» - the tower of Aalborg. You see the tower within the letter O. The large paintings on the walls of the acces ramp are done by artist Lars Plan. He is one of the talented street artist in Aalborg. But unfortunatly I wasn't able to find much information about him. This is painted on the ramp that connexts the two parts of the top level.

This image is found at the Aalborg Airport. I have never taken a flight from here, but my sister who was with me this day, has been to the airport. She recognized it imedialty. Notice the little birds on almost each one of the paintings on this side. When we noticed, we tried to figure out what it means, but we didn't find any good explanation.

We think the first with the cup with a seagul, must be the famous «Måkestellet» - meaning seagul china. This was designet in 1895 and set into production by Bing & Grøndahl, who later became part of Royal Copenghagen. It's one of the most iconic porcelain in Denmark.

To guess this one, you need to know that Aalborg is located by the fjord called «Limfjorden». «Lim» means «glue». So now you understand why the bird is turning around the bottle.. It is thinking of a boat in the fjord ( a paperboat).

The next ramp combining the levels has this beautiful portrait. The bird is singen a song. Can you see it says «Aalborg»?.

We we came to the end we understood why the little bird is everywhere! The open bird cage suggest someone has opened the cage.

We associated the snorkel mask with the many indoor and outdoor swimming and bathing facilities in Aalborg.

The bird dressed as a sausage in bread tells how the Danes love this kind of sausages.

A bottle of Aquavit in a box. The words says « In case of emergency, break the glass»! Aalborg Aquavit is a strong drink. As you might have quessed, it's produced in Aalborg. I remember til strong alcoholic drink from way back. Even Norweagians know about it!

Aalborg in colors. The number 9000 is the postal code of Aalborg. Again, my sister was a great companion, as she knows Aalborg much better than me.

An amazing parking garage. I was thinking that this would be my last post from here. But I have been told that the garages has been painted on the outside too! I am going to Denmark next weekend, so I quess I will have to find out.
