Once in A Lifetime Maldives Trip

MALÉ, MALDIVES
(Not-so-cheap) Once in A Lifetime Maldives Experience

On our 7th anniversary, we booked our flight to Malé. We were supposed to book somewhere else but we came across cheap tickets from Tigerair.

We decided not to be thrift since this is MALDIVES! We’re definite that it was a one-time trip and we won’t be back – everyone knows how expensive to spend a short vacation in that beautiful island.

There are a LOT of blogs on how to do the Maldives on a budget. We rather not to. We spent a bit more than expected but it was all worth it! Every Lincoln spent was well spent. USD is an accepted currency aside from the local Rufiyaa.

It’s the place that we almost cried the day before we left the island – a paradise where you will truly appreciate the beauty of God’s work.

In addition to cheap flight tickets, we booked our hotel for ~SGD100/night in a private island named Gangehi Island Resort which is considered quite cheap. It's the usual price of hotel rooms in other destinations.

Agoda

But here comes the costly part… since we booked a private island, we were not able to use public ferries to enter which only cost ~USD2 to the islands. We were obliged to take the seaplane. It was about 25min seaplane ride to the resort and it cost us USD370/person for a two-way ticket.

We still have the option to book a different hotel and use ferry but we agreed not to. We considered this as our first and last venture of seaplane, and promised ourselves that we won’t take another seaplane unless really necessary. Heh, who are we kidding? 😏

Sorry for the low-quality photo; it was taken as a screenshot from my Instagram post. You’ll learn why later.
We took the seaplane to the island. It was unquestionably luxurious that when we arrived, the whole hotel team was there to welcome us like celebrities with refreshments and flower lei.

Malé is so tiny – it looks likes Sim City!

We were there for a 5-day grandeur R&R. We didn’t take any island hopping or any activity outside the island. The island itself is already quite an experience.

Every morning, we took the free breakfast included in the package. On lunch and dinner, we indulged ourselves with the lunch and dinner buffets (separate packages) from the resort.

We usually have our afternoon cocktails or beers to chill.
We’re not gonna lie – food and drinks on the island cost a fortune!
Travel bloggers will suggest getting food on the main island as there were a lot of budget-friendly options when you do island hopping.

The only activities we did were:
  • snorkeling
  • walking along the shores and sand bar
  • sunset cruising

C’est notre vie! 🥂

The next photo is our signature pose, but I didn’t know we’ve been doing it even before 😲 You'll see more of these on my future posts.

We haven’t perfected the pose yet 😅

We had unique encounters during the vacation where we saw baby sharks and manta rays just swimming on the shore (on this exact location)!

We don’t have many photos to share because my iPhone decided to snorkel with us! I lost ALL photos taken with it. Imagine the heartbreak!

Love is when you sit beside someone doing nothing, yet you feel perfectly happy.

We still hope to be back when we can. But this was already and definitely an experience of a lifetime.

See you on our next destination 👋😎
