A Beautiful Beach On The Bottom Right Edge Of The Island

Coconut Trees For Miles

Mayaro beach! We head to the south eastern corner of the island of Trinidad and Tobago to the beautiful county of Mayaro. This one is a long drive along a seemingly unending straight road that takes you along the eastern coastline. You essentially get a nice view of the ocean all the way with coconut trees everywhere! The whole length of the coastline is actually lined with these coconut trees. The GIF below illustrates what the view is like when en route.

The weather was remarkably beautiful for swimming and for beaching. The skies were blue and the waters were clean and amazingly blue. Mayaro bay is perfect for those looking to build professional level sand castles and for such events as the shore line is relatively wide even at high tide. Its also cool for a nice game of cricket or quad racing! There is so much sand!

The sounds of the waves were so nice to the ears after being stuck at home for so long and all you could hear was the ringing in your ears at times. It was nice to feel the sand beneath my feet and feel the cool refreshing sea breeze in my face. Nothing else could be more perfect at that moment that I arrived.

Compared to Manzanilla beach, the sands were clean and free of heaps of smelly rotting Sargasso sea weeds (as mentioned in one of my previous blog posts here). There were however, some bits of seaweed here and there that may be indicators of what may be to come? Hopefully not, this beach to way to beautiful and it would be a tragedy to see it befall a fate similar to Manzanilla.

I could not help but still admire the coconut trees on the shore. They bring a bit of shade but also that quintessential beach image to the area. I could not resist taking some shots even though it got kind of monotonous on the way here. Another tree that is synonymous with Trinidadian beaches is the almond tree, shown in the latter picture.

This was one of those beach visits that were much needed. Some may say that we live on a Caribbean island that is virtually surrounded by beautiful beaches and we should practically be at the beach as much as we want. The truth is that most Trinidadians are caught up in life. There are a few party people who pump every weekend but most of us don't and it is even worst since the quarantining lifestyle that was induced by the pandemic! That's why it was much needed.
