Prince Edward Island, Canada

For the last month or so we have been exploring the stunningly beautiful province of Prince Edward Island in Canada!

Prince Edward Island (PEI) is known for its red sand beaches, Canada's favourite childhood novel Anne of Green Gables, and potatoes! Yep, and there is even the Canadian Potato Museum here (worth a visit if you're in the area). The province, like most in the maritime provinces, is renowned for its seafood, particularly lobster and mussels.

Our first ten days on the island were spent camped in PEI National Park. For the vast majority of the last year we have been on the move almost every day and it can be extremely exhausting. It was wonderful to stay in one spot for a while (It was also quite a treat to have a flush toilet and shower whenever we wanted!). While in the National Park we did a whole lot of nothing! It was nice to catch up on some minor work on the van, but even nicer to just sit back and relax without having to worry about where we were going to stay that night, or where we would next be able to top up with water, propane etc.

We arrived in PEI on the Labor Day Long Weekend. Little did we know that after the long weekend everything starts closing down; campgrounds, tourist attractions, public washrooms, even water starts getting turned off in public places. So despite the weather still being warm enough to go swimming (high 20s Celcius/80s Fahrenheit) the summer tourist season had ended. Because of this, and now that we are on the move again, we have found it increasingly hard to find water sources to top up the van, or sani-dumps that are still open.

But despite all of this we have still been enjoying ourselves and relaxing on all the open beaches we can find, and drinking in as many local breweries we can. AND there aren't many tourists to share the beaches and beers with. Bonus!
And who can complain when the views are this good! Especially now that the Fall colours are starting to come in.

Once we leave Prince Edward Island we don't have any solid travel plans. At the moment we are waiting for either the US land border to open (to go south for the winter) or the Australian border to open (so we can go home for a few months over Christmas). If neither of these borders open we are considering a short-term lease for the winter as we are not set up to live in the Canadian winter in our van. But who knows where? We don't, that's for sure!
