The Garibaldi Lake Trail was our first multi-day hike. We had a lot of backcountry hikes planned for the summer of 2018, and as we hadn't done any backcountry hiking before this was going to be a practice run. We planned to stay two nights.
The trail is located near Whister, BC. It's 9km (~5.5miles) and 900m (~2950ft) elevation. It took us about 3-3.5hours, which surprised us as it was recommended to take 5hours. A good sign for all the future hikes we had booked.
When we arrived at the camp site there was so much snow we had to dig out our tent pad... well, Ryan did haha!

On Day two we decided to hike Panorama Ridge, a five hour day hike from our campsite. The beginning of the hike was great, all flat through forest and fields, but then we hit the base of the incline and there was so much snow! About knee deep, and the hike up was so much harder because of it. And with it being a ridge and full of snow I was terrified that we'd step on a bit of snow too close to the edge and plummet to our death. But we reached the top in one piece only to find we were surrounded clouds; it was a full white out. We couldn’t see 1m in front of us, but we were patient and waited it out, and it was worth it. The cloud slowly cleared and the view opened up and we could see Garibaldi Lake, Black Tusk and mountains for days. It was beautiful!

The next morning we packed up camp and hiked back down trail. Parts of the descent were pretty hard on our knees but other parts were pretty fun (see picture below).
Overall a pretty successful first hiking trip, and one that definitely kicked off our love of hiking.
